Great historical place. You can see the "old" Japan. The merchandise is a bit pricey, but that is expected almost everywhere. Loved it!

While the actual schoolhouse, 800 meters away, is worth a visit, this more expensive attraction is simply the buildings used in the film, now occupied by souvenir and food businesses. There are plenty of places to see more athentic buildings of this vintage in the area. The interior of the more modern building dedicated to the life of the author... More

My foster parents brought me here and i really enjoyed it. I actually knew nothing about the movie since its a very classic movie but the set was nice and well maintained and i actually ended up watching the movie.

to a non-Japanese & haven't seen the movie before, this village is not too attractive to me. but its interesting to see how an old age japan school is & try the school set lunch.

This may not be of interest unless you have seen the art film by master Japanese filmmaker Keisuke Kinoshita: Tenty-Four Eyes.
