    Beautiful experience of nature!
Exceptionally professional coordination of Lucerne's public bus to the gondola, then surrounding beauty of the natural site with beautiful hotels and dining areas. All displays were stunning with comfy folding canvas deck chairs available outdoors for those who wanted to rest and absorb it all. We took the cog rail back down and then the ferry back to downtown Lucerne. A completely wonderful visit - signage and kindness of staff was appreciated!!!

Great views with places to explore
The clog train was neat. The scenery along the way up and down to the mountain was nice, but the best views by far are on the top. You have great views of the mountain, the scenery below and if you are lucky you will see the gondolas coming up and down the mountain. Restaurants were good but the line ups were long. It is a nice place to enjoy the views and relax. Would have loved to stay at the hotel, but it was a bit pricey. The washrooms were very clean.

While in Switzerland.....we had to do it
Scared of heights but I was determined to do it. The day we visited Pilatus it was a rainy day so we hesitated going but we did it. We thought we would take just the first 2 gondolas and stop at that height but decided to buy the whole package and go to the top. We bought our tickets when we arrived, we did not reserve or buy ahead of time and it turned out great. We did not take the cogwheel train and after seeing the line-ups for it we are glad we didn't. The rain stopped on our way up the gondola and it turned into a beautiful day. I've attached a few pictures.

Stunning views after a medium effort hike
I hiked up from Alpnachstadt. There is a decent sized car park by the cogwheel railway station and a public toilet for getting ready/cleaning up afterwards. The route up took about 2h45min, but that was with getting a sweat on and with no stops, so 4h-4h30min is more realistic. The path was very clearly signposted, safe, never too steep or requiring scrambling. Great views towards the second half, and well worth the effort. Plan ahead and book the cogwheel railway down to avoid disappointment and save those knees.

    Superb View of Pilatus.
The ride up Pilatus was pretty straightforward. Tips is to do it from Kriens (and not from the other way). I started at 8.30am and the first cable car ride went off at 9am. Spent a while walking up the top of pilalus and had a short coffee break at the restaurant. It took about 2 hours in total. There is a cave walk in and out of the mountain. Overall experience was pleasant and the view was breathtaking. Tips: do the trip from Kriens and not other way round. As we reached the cogwheel down at Pilatus Kulm. The queue to buy tickets and the queue to talk the cogwheels were horrible. People were standing in the hot sun queueing up for the ride up. Also, there is no need to reserved a cogwheel space if you are doing it from Kriens, provided if it’s on a weekday. I didn’t even have to use my reserved ticket for the cogwheel as there were no queue!

Buy Tix @ Pilatus Shop Luzern
My wife and I did the Golden Route on our own. The trip is very impressive as evidenced by the many glowing reviews. I’m posting a review to highlight the advantages of buying tickets from the Pilatus Shop Luzern if you’re going on your own. The store is centrally located and charges the same price as online. The woman working at the store explained the details of the route and answered all of our questions. It made our trip a lot easier and saved us a lot of internet research regarding the mechanics of the trip. We were very glad that we purchased our tickets there.

Start your Pilatus journey in Kriens and go in the morning
On a clear day, the trip to the top of Pilatus is a must! Go early in the morning to avoid the crowds. Once on the summit, a variety of explorations are available. Two of us hiked out along a trail which provided information about the flowers of the region. This one was of medium difficulty. Others simply stayed and enjoyed the view. Two hotels are located on the mountain along with a few dining options. Though guide books recommend taking the cog rail to the top and the cable cars down, that may be fine. When we bought our tickets at the Pilatus store in Lucerne, we were advised to reverse the course since we wanted to include the boat ride. What a great suggestion! I must admit, the Pilatusbahn team accommodated the crowds by adjusting the schedules and sending the cog rail up more often than on the schedule.

    DO NOT MISS THIS!!!
The most beautiful views in the world. Two hotels on top and hiking everywhere. There are also activities for the younger people. Lunch was fabulous at the hotel overlooking the mountain. We did the hardest trail and it was not difficult at all. Took the train up and the cable car down. Gorgeous!!

The views are amazing and unbelievable. A must do in Switzerland. Coming down the mountain by the cogwheel train was incredible.

Views from the top are overwhelming, but the waiting times in the queue foro the cogwheel are completely insane. At least two hours waiting in the sun. These places where you can pay an extra to avoid queues are pretty much a scam. I recommend to avoid the circular trip and just take a round cablecar. Views are better and is much faster.

Had purchased the Golden round trip with reservations in advance. Rain and clouds were predicted on the day of our reservation so tried to postpone and make changes but got declined on site.Took the boat to Alpnachstad and it was great.
For the reservation the staff just mixes you with a regular line unlike Jungfrau tickets where online reservations get a priority for entry and have a separate seating queue.Went up the Cog wheel and there was zero visibility. On the way down was told that the cable car is not working today and have to ride the cogwheel down. Didn't understand why was this not announced at the cog wheel station in our way up? And why the resistance to make changes or refund for bad weather or inoperability.

The product being sold is the experience and the cost to ride the cog wheel and cable cars etc.
Customers are paying for a service and experience in good faith, what's the harm in providing little flexibility not unless it is profit oriented. On several occasions found the staff rude and not accommodating.Seems more interested in selling tickets then providing service or experience.

Recommend not purchasing tickets in advance.

Also the boat ride to Alpnachstad is covered in the Swiss pass so don’t double pay with online reservations.
