Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What a location!
The only access is on foot approximately 15 minutes walk from nearest car parking but it’s well worth it.
The cove looks like it should be in New Zealand rather than North Devon.
The 240 steps (yes,I counted them) to the beach are steep and not recommended if you’re unsteady on your feet or have height issues but otherwise worth the effort remembering that you have to climb back up again.
Best visited at low tide as most of the beach disappears when the tide comes in.

The beach is grey sand & shale and is under secluded by its minimal, difficult access, and there are no facilities, but that doesn’t stop people going. There is no nearby legal parking available at all. The lane from the Sawmill pub (the Old Coast Road) is a no parking lane that is so narrow that those choosing to park illegally there risk getting their cars damaged because it’s too narrow to enable safe passing and very tight turning points for those who, despite the signs, drive to the dead end of the lane. There is a free car park available in Berrynarbor but it’s quite a walk to the beach & then there’s the small
matter of the 200+ uneven steps.
Seriously overhyped beach and there’s much nicer more accessible golden sandy beaches available at Woolacombe, Staunton & Croyde. Woolacombe and Saunton offer uncrowded areas if you take a short walk away from the busy areas.

The sands are good. The toilets are 30p and do not take cash - neither side of that is acceptable, as are not the hand basin substitutes. The car park charges over the odds, although we parked for free on the out-of-season double yellows. There are three rows of beach huts - those looking out on the sands and the sea, those with their backs to the sands and the sea and those in a field that could be anywhere. Those sands are so good. The environs could be much better.

Didn’t count the number of steps, was too busy hanging onto the hand rail but it was worth it! We walked from Ilfracombe so more than ready for a dip on a sunny September day. It was heavenly. It was empty and low tide when we arrived so plenty of beach to sit on. You can easily get caught out when tide turns so keep a watch. No facilities (yay) but too many dogs for my liking (boo). Peace also spoilt by two lads racing into the cove each on a speedboat. Totally ignorant people were swimming so be careful. It’s by far the best beach in the UK and well worth the near heart attack to get back up!

Beautiful natural beach carved out of the tree lined cliff, accessible by cleverly crafted steps not for wimps or disabled, the effort is rewarded when you witness the pure nature beauty and the clear clean sea lapping on the shore of a part sandy quiet beach blessed with areas of natural shade. It’s a paradise on earth, don’t tell anyone 😊

We recently stayed at the Watermouth Valley campsite and visited Broadsands Beach. Yes the steps are steep and it’s a long way down, but we are so glad we did it, even our son with cerebral palsy, made it. Gorgeous little enclosed beach, fantastic for a little swim, sea glass hunting and taking in the beautiful sounds of the sea.

beautiful little beach took about 15-20mins to walk to from Mill Park campsite. The only thing is there is no toilets and you have to walk down 250 steps to get to yet i think it was 100% worth it! the sea was beautiful and the beach was lovely to sunbathe

A little peace of heaven and we even forgave the 250 steps to get down to the beach. Of course we had to come back up too.
