This castle looks like a large house, but is beautiful as are the grounds. A great setting for a wedding. The entrance price is very good and reflects the size of the property. They are opening the kitchens this year. There are videos playing which...More

Our visit to Highcliffe Castle was a little disappointing as the property appeared rather shabby to us and in need of attention and some redecoration. It was also much smaller than we had imagined with some areas not open to the public which spoilt our...More

We visited the house, at £2.50 per adult it was cheap. The house is nice enough but not awesome. Nice that the locals have access to the grounds.

There was lots of builders on site today, areas unavailable and the easy access slope from the beach out of use, being reconstructed following a major earth slip. The cafe was open and access from the beach either the hundred odd steps up or fron...More

A beautiful historical building in an amazing location. Try out the cafe and look out for various events held here. Have been to a Holistic Fair, Classic car show and live band and an evening of Charles Dickens with a twist! Very interesting.

Very disappointing. We were expecting something very special, given the history of the house and the Selfridge connection. The actual tea rooms are clearly a later addition to the main building, and looked like a warehouse rather than a welcoming, cosy space. The tables and...More

We had lunch at the tea rooms next to the castle. Sausage sandwiches were amazing. Serve was efficient and friendly. We didn't visit Ruger castle. Lovely well kept gardens.

Well worth a visit it really is a work in progress the whole place was just a ruin before work commenced in the 1990s to commence renovations, all on money raised by lottery grants and charity donations with some grants from the local council -...More

We popped in for a wander around the garden mid afternoon and a visit to the tea room. The tea room was cold and unwelcoming with two staff serving who couldn’t cope and we waited forever in a queue to get served. When we got...More

Probably too late, but on Hengisbury you can take the 'road train’ which takes you from close to the ferry dock up to the cafe, half way back to ‘Southbourne’ hence half the walk:

Dogs are welcome around the gardens, not sure whether they're meant to be kept on leads or not but they seemed to be running free on the beach, hope that helps.
