Can't really add much more to what has already been said, this castle is still in a great state of preservation and you can even walk all the way around the upper wall. There is also a nice little museum inside the castle, and a good gift shop. There are some great views from up high, just remember to go... More

Interesting castle, free audioguide, but watch out for the parking charge. Framlingham seems a long way from anywhere down lots of winding country roads, although on a map it looks no distance from Ipswich. We did enjoy our time there and there was a small but nice Market on in the town, unfortunately we didn't find anything else nearby worth... More

This is a great castle anyway but the Topsy-Turvey version of the audio tour is a must! What a fantastic way to entertain all the family - history is fun! The staff in the shop were super & the taster of the Ginger Wine was very welcome on a cold day. Definitely one place to visit.

This castle was built in the middle ages as a necessary fortification between rival barons and the king. It's not so much of a castle in the accepted sense of the word, as an enclosed courtyard surrounded by huge battlemented walls. There was no central Keep built - the courtyard had houses and a chapel etc, most of which have... More

There was a Norman castle, dating as far back as the year 1148, on the site where Framlingham Castle currently stands. Hence, there's lots of rich history that surrounds this site - for example, Framlingham Castle is where Mary was proclaimed Queen of England in July, 1553. Furthermore, a poor house (the Red House) was established in the Inner Court... More

Built by Roger Bigod, the Earl of Norfolk, having no central keep, but instead using a curtain wall with thirteen towers to defend the castle. Despite this, the castle was successfully taken by King John in 1216. Thereafter converted into a luxury home.

Nice surprise to get car parking refund if you go in castle,(£3) we had a lovely day to go round ,made views from walls good. The free audio tour is a great help ,it explains all the things you are seeing. The museum was interesting especially the before and after pictures of the little town showing how little it had... Despite visiting on a cold and rainy day, this is an impressive sight. The castle's ruins are well preserved, and the walk on the wall was a highlight. The views from up on the wall are beautiful. The small display in the visitor's center had some good information.

Visited during half term and the actors/entertainers were excellent for the whole family.Only a circular wall walk and a few rooms to explore but the local museum room was very interesting and the grounds and associated walks were extensive.

As English Heritage members, we love to explore new castles. Framlingham Castle was the main reason for our visit to Suffolk and we set out to spend a few hours here. Upon arrival we discovered that they had a Gothic Falconry display on inside the castle grounds, so quickly joined the growing crowd to watch this. The display was both... More
