Great way to spend a few hours of an afternoon! Lovely and informative, and a beautiful setting. We'd love to come back in the summer for a picnic and a day trip around the grounds. Well worth a visit! *note, the main building and exhibition is closed at the moment, but you're still charged full price.

We have visited Framlingham Castle on a number of occasions, always finding something new to stimulate our interest in English History. At its best on a sunny day, the views from the battlements are outstanding and, once current improvements to the display material and cafe are completed, this will be even higher up our list of 'recommended days out in... The entrance fee may seem a lot for a visit which is unlikely to take you much more than an hour, but Framlingham Castle is still worth a trip, at least in fine weather. There are wonderful views from the battlements out over the lake and the audio commentary does succeed in bringing the cold and bare stones to life.... More

Only walked around the outside but it was a beautiful day and the views were great. If we'd had more time would have definitely visited.

Visited here with family and had a lovely day out - the audio tour was really good and we especially liked how you could explore multiple parts of the castle. The inside exhibition was a really interesting collection too, we especially liked all of the old photos and the insights the guides were able to add.

Can't really add much more to what has already been said, this castle is still in a great state of preservation and you can even walk all the way around the upper wall. There is also a nice little museum inside the castle, and a good gift shop. There are some great views from up high, just remember to go... More

Interesting castle, free audioguide, but watch out for the parking charge. Framlingham seems a long way from anywhere down lots of winding country roads, although on a map it looks no distance from Ipswich. We did enjoy our time there and there was a small but nice Market on in the town, unfortunately we didn't find anything else nearby worth... More

This is a great castle anyway but the Topsy-Turvey version of the audio tour is a must! What a fantastic way to entertain all the family - history is fun! The staff in the shop were super & the taster of the Ginger Wine was very welcome on a cold day. Definitely one place to visit.

This castle was built in the middle ages as a necessary fortification between rival barons and the king. It's not so much of a castle in the accepted sense of the word, as an enclosed courtyard surrounded by huge battlemented walls. There was no central Keep built - the courtyard had houses and a chapel etc, most of which have... More

There was a Norman castle, dating as far back as the year 1148, on the site where Framlingham Castle currently stands. Hence, there's lots of rich history that surrounds this site - for example, Framlingham Castle is where Mary was proclaimed Queen of England in July, 1553. Furthermore, a poor house (the Red House) was established in the Inner Court... More
