This chapel is nicely situated on top of a hill with scenic views over the environment. There is a modest castle (now a restaurant I believe) and a cafe. The chapel itself looks ok from the outside, with some gold statue on top. Inside, there's not too much to see. A regular chapel, with some paintings, candles, and many inscriptions in stone thanking Maria. A sculpture seems to hold a relic - that may be special, but I can't find any information about it.

Wonderful views from the "oudenberg". Respect the huffing and puffing of the cyclists. MUST ENTER the chapel to discover the strange atmosphere between religion and superstition.

The chapel is renewed already a long time ago but still collect and shows a spirit and feeling of centeries ago. Years ago the chapel wall was covered with hunderds of signs of thanks for medicinal and other help. Some of them are left, but not all. The chapel was a real pilgrimage and and despite much intrested is gone, it is still advisable to visit this place and return back in time. It"s very difficult to forecast your feeling but stay open for the quite and warmfull feeling. The orientation table near and above the chapel gives you a splendid view on the wide region. When you are around the chapel of the "Oudenberg" make time to walk on the "muur", which means the wall in English.

Here we are goinmg to visit now after we have seen the statue from “Manneken Pis”, the “City Hall” the “Chapel on the Wall of Geraardsbergen”. The “Wall of Geraardsbergen” is an incline and street on the “Oudenberg” used in the cycling race “Tour of Flanders” this from 1973 until 2011. In the year 1940 the “Oudenberg” became a protection as “Landscape”, and in the year 1995 they called the famous incline a “Monument”. In the middle of the 18th century they get started the building of the Chapel on the “Oudenberg”, which is on this moment also a place of pilgrimage, worth a visit, certainly the inside and also the outside for the fantastic view you have over the region.

Visit the old and beautiful chapel and enjoy the amazing view over the region - up to Brussels (40 km)- Inside the chapel you will notice all these typical "prayers" and "thanks" to the local madonna. Wait for the change of hour for the clock lyrics.
