We visited the Monastery through our hostel (Hostel Mostel) for 40lev per person. The mini bus picked us up from outside the hostel just before 10am, on the way we stopped at a roadside cafe for a toilet break and for people to buy snacks. Before going to the Monastery our driver took us to the cave where the monk... More

I visite the monastery with some friends when we were in Bulgaria. We travelled from Sophia to the monastery by bus. The surrounding area is incredibly beautiful: it is in the middle of a mountain chain and beside the manastirska river. When we were there the mountain peak was snow-covered creating an idyllic picture. The monastery itself is quite interesting... More

It's worth enough to take a day to visit Rila Monastery. It's an incredible place, spectacular courtyard with the church in the center and also the old tower. Nice outside wall paintings in the church. Don't miss the inside of the church. It's interesting to visit the museum also.

If you are in Bulgaria take time to see this lovely place. The Rila Monastery has a rich historical story, a beautiful church, amazing icons, and a wonderful museum. It is time well spent!

I was there in Nov 2016, it was so cold the temperature was around -1C. I was supposed to stay at their accommodation but then I found out the price jumped up from 25 euro to 35 euro then I just decided to make a day trip. Basically you can just hang around the ground floor, can't go up stairs... More

We stopped here on our way back from Greece. We found a B&B nearby and visited the monastery right before the closing time. It's an impressive site, not just for the history behind it, but mostly because you can see and feel the place is blessed. There'a special peace, a freshness of the air and birds flying round and round... More

Wonderful day out today with Traventuria. The small group in a minibus was lovely and meant there were only a few stops on the way to pick people up. The journey after the pick ups in Sofia was 2 hours though the countryside and then a slow climb up the mountain to the monastery. Inside, the monastery is amazing. Only... More

Went on a small group tour from Sofia, we're not sure how else you could visit without your own transport as it is quite a trek. When you get there it more than makes up for the time travelled. The setting is tranquil and would be scenic at any time of year. The buildings are architecturally stunning and the wall... More

In addition to reviewing the monastery is better to take the time to walk and climb to cave. The area is loaded with very positive energy .A even if you have more free days is nice to take the opportunity to walk to Seven Lakes,
