Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It was raining so couldn't really see the colour that is reflected from the lake. However, we visited the naturally occuring sulphur produced lake that was Awesome! But for those who are asthmatic, be cautioned that the pungent smell from the smoke will cause some breathing discomfort.

I am Yoga Efendi, a Traveler from Yogyakarta. Telaga Warna is a natural wonder in Dieng Plateau, Java Island - Indonesia.
There are some best location to see this lake but I just give you my favourite spot, Batu Ratapan Angin.
This spot is special coz you will see two different colors from the Giant Volcano rock. I recommend you to hire a guide in Dieng.

Normally a green lake in Indonesia isn’t something to drive 4 hours for, Telaga Warna near Wonosobo is actually a volcanic spring heated by deep underground hydrothermal activity up on Indonesia’s highest village plateau of Dieng. Telaga Warna’s cloudy green appearance kicks up its charm value past the average mark & is due to the natural blue colour of water under sunlight mixing with the yellow of the underground volcanic sulphur turning the water green. The best green can be seen on a sunny day but the absence of birds & fish gives the whole area a creepy feel as if it were cursed, very strange for such a naturally beautiful area.
This is the sort of attraction that can either take 15 mins & a toilet break or can be a pleasant hour or two. Crawling with day-tourists, there are plenty of photo opportunities around, the best are from the hill looking down or lakeside around the green water’s edge. Watch as people attempt to take pictures on logs hanging over the water, you can always hope to see an attractive girl falling in with a shriek.
Besides the silent still waters, Telaga Warna has a short picturesque walking circuit which is refreshing after the long drive from Yogyakarta. The path snakes around Telaga Warna with varied landscapes from paved path, trails, green hills, rocky moss-covered caves & statues. Spending anywhere less than an hour strolling around here would seem like a rush, there’s a slow paced vibe here that even the guards observe, spending most of the day sleeping.
Unfortunately the tourist park lacks picnic tables & sitting benches so your time here might be limited to a quick poke around. Give the tourist theatre a miss, there’s just a crappy doco about the lake. You won’t need a guide here for any reason other than to pay you compliments on your excellent muscle tone & manly physique, but when in Rome do as the Romans do, find a spot in the shade or on the hill, stretch out your legs & enjoy the view.....life can be pretty good from here.

Beware of the Westerners' entrance fee of 20x the local price. It costs 100,000 Rp per person to see the lake with litter all around. On a weekend it costs 150,000Rp!!! This has been raised to milk tourists recently. Older reviews will not tell you this! Also, be aware that tours will visit this lake, so you won't have a huge choice. BEWARE!

We had a short trek,10-15 mins, to the top of the mountain nearby to see the colorful lake and it's really worth!!! We're lucky to come here on the right day, sunny day. We could saw the lake with 2-3 colors clearly and also got Mt.Sindoro as a background. It's very fantastic and worth to walk up hill. You don't wanna miss it if you come to Dieng, trust me.

It was raining in the morning. I only can see the green colour, but according to the guide, we can see green, blue and yellow in good weather. The sulphur smell is so strong that we even don't want to go near it.

The entrance fee is much more expensive for foreigners, but somehow I paid the domestic price (maybe I look like a local). It's a pleasant stroll around the lake and you can see up close the water bubbling to the surface.

Certainly this is a picturesque lake. Again, expectations before you arrive and your points of comparison will determine if you are wowed or underwhelmed. We came expecting a natural landscape, a lake lost in remote hills... The sizeable car parks at the entrance were the first clue that this wasn't what awaited.
You will pay 110,000 (around £6) to amble along a paved path, bordered with nicely trimmed hedges that later give way to more indigenous trees, allowing you to walk around the lake with school groups and other selfie taking tourists. That takes around 30 minutes.
Its Disneylake.
The colours you'll see in the water depend very much on the weather. Don't bet on the spectacular spectrum you see on postcards, unless you are very lucky

The Telaga Warna entrance is IDR100,000 on weekdays and IDR150,00 on weekends.
Compared to the majestic view at Arjuna temple, which costs only IDR30,000, this is a significant letdown.
Although the lake has unique natural composition, which supposedly renders it “colourful”, no effort has been made to showcase that to visitors.
This pricey park, built at ground-level of the lake, ended-up appearing just like a normal park with a “normal” lake. But with a bold price tag of IDR100,000.
The park should be re-developed at higher grounds for better viewpoint, but until then, spend your money at a better park.
