Depends on your interests really. Its smaller than I expected and its in the middle of a flat plain (although ringed by rocky hills at a distance) so the views aren't quite what I was expecting either. That said, as an attraction it is much better done than nearby Bahla Fort as it has been decorated with goods and furniture... More

Nice castle, good restoration but Oman offers much better options (see Bahla and Nizwa fort). If you stay in a nearby hotel do not miss the opportunity to have a look.

Not sure whether to call it a fort or a castle. You really get some idea of what life was like for a very important imam in the 17th century. There are enough pots and dishes, books and carpets to indicate what various rooms were used for, and a mosque and school on the top level. There are also garrison... More

After visiting Nizwa fort we thought this one would a disappointment but no it was equally as impressive. It has recently been restored although it has been well preserved in the past. You can freely wander round at leisure and get e feel for the past in this stunning fort. It extends over several floor with quite a few steps... More

We visited on a very hot day, but it is cool inside. Very well restored so you can get a feel of what it must have been like. Wonderful clear views of the surrounding countryside (which is obviously why it was built in this location)

If you are visiting the Interior Region of Oman and after your visit to Nizwa and Bahla , this is a must see fort that goes back centuries telling allot about the Omani dynasty of al ya aribah Its also overlooking alot of the agricultural surrounding area of Bahla and the lovely village of Bisya.

This was the only castle we visited in Oman on this trip, but we felt it very worthwhile. Lots of rooms and stairs to explore.

The castle is in great condition, and is lots of fun to explore. Look out for the bats clinging to the walls in the darker passages.

One of many 'precious' forts in Oman. This has been restored and is available for you to wander around, touch, clamber over and pretty much do as you please. Little or no annoying Health and Safety rails, ropes, guards, etc. ( but keep an eye on the little ones) so a great place for young minds to really explore. Only... More
