Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I love a lighthouse as much as any other pharologist, but whilst this is worth a visit given it’s status as the most northerly on the mainland, the complete lack of decent access was disappointing.
The largely single track road takes you right up to the lighthouse with plenty of spaces so that was a positive start but once parked and walking towards the lighthouse it became clear that the owners of the former keepers cottages are not ones for people entering the compound.
You can still see the lighthouse and foghorn from the western side but if you are looking for a nice selection of angles from which to view and photograph then you will be disappointed.
There are numerous WW2 buildings from when the site was also a radar and monitoring site which adds some nice history so a visit remains worthwhile but lacklustre lighthouse access remains a disappointment for me - as you can probably tell!

I cycled to this site and loved the route out and back. The climb was worth the view of the Orkneys at the end of it but 15 mins at the site was enough to take in the experience. It was my second visit and I would do it again in a year or so.

Cracking lighthouse ryt on the edge of the country ..well maintained and still looking good after being built years ago
The views from the area around the light house are immense ..u can see all the way to hoy on the orknies
Weather today oustanding and clear skys and no breeze made a terrific time
Of the beaten track but well.worth the 6 miles of single track road to go see it

Dunnet Head was on our list for our trip up to the north of Scotland a couple of weeks ago - as the northern most point of the UK mainland it was a must do.
It's a nice place with some great views. Was super windy which is to be expected, so we didn't stay too long.
Have to say it was much better than John O'Groats though! Add it to your list 🙂

I stayed 18 days at Dunnet Head Lighthouse. If you ever need to decompress, relax or explore nature, this is the place. The Keepers cottage was a fully stocked home, fireplace and all. The wildlife, gardens, outdoor firepit. I can't wait to return.

I visited Dunnet Head following a recommendation from the hotel I was staying it. I wasn't originally planning on visiting, but I'm glad I did! This is in fact the most northerly point on mainland Britain, not John O'Groats, and it is significantly better. My advice is to grab a hot drink from John O'Groats, drive to Dunnet Head, park up and soak up the views while drinking your tea or coffee. There's a couple of short walks to viewing points of the lighthouse and the coast. Well worth spending an hour or so here.

Well maintained lighthouse, pretty to see with moody coastal weather.
Well worth a drive up to Dunnet Head for a little pit stop before driving on.
Easy parking.

Nice drive to the light house. Very scenic. Went there a few times while i was doing the NC500. Not too busy. Nice to sit and watch the wildlife. Some nice walks nearby also. Amazing views.. Also went there for the sunset. Worth doing..

I was on Orca Watch in June. Dunnet Head is amazing and should not be missed. The lighthouse grounds are private. It is a great place to get out and walk, and admire the scenery and the wildlife. The views to Hoy across the tempestuous Pentland Firth are stunning to say the least.

Free car parking. Short walk to the lighthouse and viewpoint. A few other visitors about but not overly busy. Plenty of wildlife if you have a keen eye. Nice walk area with informational signs about.
