Hi there, if you see the (Google) map of Bromo - Tengger National Park just south-southwest of Probolinggo, you also can find Madakaripura Waterfall just north of Bromo-Tengger National Park. Is it worthwhile ? Yes, of course. Just Google the (hi)story of Tengger Caldera, and Madakaripura. and you also can browse my review of Bromo-Tengger National Park & Madakaripura. I have uploaded scenic foto's of these two destinations, and I definitely recommend you guys to plan your stopover and visit to these two places. The easiest way is of course to stop over at Probolinggo. Then hire a car (average daily rent incl. driver, IDR 600,000) to drive from Probolinggo to Bromo-Tengger National Park and Madakaripura. Distance wise, it can be done as a day trip vv from Probolinggo. But if you can adjust your schedule, then consider the following time frame : Try to arrive at the entrance of Bromo-Tengger NP by 2am (!), which means that you can leave Probolinggo city around midnight. There it is advisable to rent a 4x4 jeep (standarad cost IDR 600,000 PLUS ENTRANCE TICKET TO PARK IDR40,000pp ), which can take you on a complete tour to see : -> Sunrise view @ Mt. Penanjakan : a breath taking, must-see life-time experience -> Down hill drive to parking site to visit Bromo, and it's advisable to take a horse ride (IDR 150.000 vv, average fare per person, to avoid ime-loss of the time-consuming long walk) from the parking site to the stairs up to Broma's crater. The visit to Bromo's crater will be the crown of your visit, since there are only a few places on earth that has similar geography. -> the jeep driver will take you then to Tengger savana site, and the "whispering" sea of sand, which concludes the visit to the NP, at around 9am. All of that for IDR 600.000,- plus entrance fee, horse ride, etc, for an invaluable life-time experience ! -> You can then get on your rental car from the exit of the NP to Madakaripura Waterfall, which is only 30-45minutes away. -> at Madakaripura parking site, you HAVE TO HIRE A TOUR GUIDE, IDR 150,000 for a group up to 5 persons. Believe me, that is a very meager price for the service that you will get ! The tour guide will also ask you the Park Entrance fee of IDR 40,000,-/pp plus the motorbike ride fee of IDR 20,000 vv/pp to the Waterfall Park site entrance, which is ~6km away from the parking site. it is advisable to use a rain jacket, short pants and rubber/waterproof footwear, since part of the walk to the waterfall is through the river stream. But if you don't have them, many local vendors on site offer them for a negligible price (sandals for IDR 10,000 / rain-jacket for IDR 5,000). The average visiting time to Madakaripura Waterfall is 2-3hrs, which I definitely assure you : you will tell everybody you know to come visit this incredibly wonderful site. Concluding my answer, you may finish your visit at Madakaripura by 1-2pm, then drive back to Probolinggo city for a late lunch, and continue your train trip to Bali. If you count the overall cost of this visit, assuming that you are a group of minimum 2 persons, then the overall cost to these two places will be : ===> group expenses : ~ IDR 1,600,000 (~USD120) Day Rental Car from Probolinggo vv IDR 600,000 Max fuel consumption IDR 250,000 4x4 Jeep Rental incld. Qualified Caldera Driver IDR 600,000 Tour Guide at Madakaripura Waterfall IDR 150,000 ---> Per Person Expenses : ~IDR 250,000 (~USD18) Hoping tro have given you a satisfactory answer, I wish you an enjoyable trip !
