I found the monastery at the second try. There are only few indicators and while I was looking to the train I passed near the indicator to the monastery. The monastery is quite small but stunning. I would like to stay a bit more. If you are in that area please visit this beautiful monastery.

Moldovita Monastery is a Romanian Orthodox Monastery built in 1532 by Petru Rares who was the illegitimate son of Stephen the Great. It has very well preserved frescoes and is included on the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites. In my opinion, it was the most beautiful of the three monasteries (others were Voronet and Sucevita) that we visited. There... More

We spent a day, driving in a circle from Humor, to Voronet, to Moldovita and Sucevita monastery. Voronet's paintings are famous for its blue hues, but we thought Moldovita's paintings displayed the same vivid colors. There are beautiful frescos of the siege of Constantinople, the tree of Jesse and many other Bible and Saints' stories. The whole setting is peaceful... More

A very pretty church and gardens. We enjoyed a relaxing morning admiring the paintings on the church.

lovely monastery and surroundings. it is one of the most impressive i have ever seen. i recommend the same activities as suggested for the Sucevita: go, visit, admire and just lay down in the grass and let the quiet and calm surround you.

Impressive place. I really liked the depiction of the Siege of Constantinople on the south face. To really appreciate the paintings and the significance of what you see do get a guide book that has pictures and explains the frescoes. Even better find a guide if you can. You can buy small guide books from the monastery that do the... More

It is part of the UNESCO heritage site of North Moldavian Monasteries and is one of the best, it is unique - with the others monasteries for the outside painted walls. The frescoes are beautiful and very well preserved. Considering in top of all the beautiful setting in the middle of nature and you have an ideal place to visit.

If you plan to make a Moldavian monastery tour, this one is a must. Set in a beautiful natural landscape, it is a small and elegant architectural monument.

This isn't a monastery that gets the same level of attention as say Vronet or Humor but the frescoes were well preserved and the setting with several well renovated buildings makes it well worth a visit.

We came group of 9 tourists from Israel. After long ride to see specially the moldovica monastery we wanted to go to the toilet, the ladies. In the church they refuse to let us in, and sent to the visitor toilet. We went 60 m from the entrance, and I want to remind - 9 grown 55-67 years old. Arriving... More
