About
Visit the Roald Dahl Museum, a great little family attraction in the heart of Roald Dahl country. Get hands-on in the three galleries, packed with activities perfect for 6 to 12 year olds and their families. Find out about Roald Dahl's school pranks, peek into the author's original Writing Hut, and discover how Roald Dahl's real-life adventures inspired his stories. The Museum puts your imagination centre-stage to help you and your family create your own swashboggling stories - just like Roald Dahl did. While you're here why not go on one of our self-guided trails and meander through the village lanes, woods and fields that Roald Dahl walked in, and see the sights that inspired him to write. A visit wouldn't be complete without a visit to our on-site Cafe. Pop in for delicious lunches and fabulous cakes. During term-time we serve afternoon tea from 2pm to 4pm, Tuesday to Sunday (booking essential). Our Cafe is open to all, not just Museum visitors.

cancellation call
Oct 2020
I sent an email to the team at the museum asking them to let us know in case of any cancellations during the half term. To my amazement they rang me twice!! this kind of attitude is rare and cannot thank them enough. We were greeted by Helen, our super friendly guide and we actually had the museum to ourselves for over an hour!!!
To the whole team at RD museum: you are amazing!!!

Excellent visit
Oct 2020 • Family
Visited with two 12 years olds and was very impressed with the amount of info in the museum and how they are running the private guided tours to keep everyone safe and distanced, it was like having the museum to yourselves! Our guide Ilsa was very knowledgable and entertaining and we all had a great visit. The children loved the layout of the museum, the way the info was all presented and hearing an unpublished chapter of Dahl’s work read to them especially, it was a shame Covid stopped them from being able to use all the interactive exhibits which looked great fun but totally understandable. Great activity pack given to kids to take home instead though which was really nice touch.

Definitely worth a visit
Oct 2020 • Family
Getting there was very straightforward and was very easy to find, there is no on site parking however there is a pay and display just a few hundred yards down the road.
We were greeted into the reception area by the shop and was meet by Charlotte our personal tour guide for the duration. Charlotte did not disappoint, she was very knowledgeable, approachable, friendly and her story telling skills were fabulous! Nothing was too much trouble for her, what a delight!
There was lots of memorabilia to see regarding Roald Dahl himself, from his childhood in Wales to his writing hut in Buckinghamshire.
This is a must for any Dahl fans out there young and old, definitely worth a trip...the tour wasn’t particularly lengthy we was there for approximately 1 hour 15 mins but this was just enough time.
Another must is a cafe called Matilda’s which is just at the top of the high street. Food and drink was divine (especially the all day breakfast’s!
Enjoy!

Roald Dahl guided tour
Oct 2020 • Family
We had an amazing time today on our guided tour. Our guide Jo was fantastic and really made everything come to life. My daughters (9 & 6) had a wonderful time (as did we) learning about Roald Dahl, his life and his stories. They have been inspired to re-read his books. Highly recommend this for a family afternoon out.

Absolutely delightful! Great experience for both Adults and Children and we had a personal tour with Grace who was fabulous. Despite COVID restrictions the tour was interactive and activity packs were provided at the end to take home. My daughter was certainly inspired to write more :)

We had a very enjoyable morning with our lovely tour guide Grace. She was very knowledgeable and interacted beautifully with our 7 year old daughter. It was such a lovely experience - thank you to all at the RD SC for so carefully considering how to operate in the most difficult of times...
