One of Australia's most unique venues. Converted from historic wartime oil tanks to an arts centre. By day view free art exhibitions and walk the beautiful surrounds. By night be sure to check who is playing in Cairns' best entertainment venue (awarded this title for the last five years and counting).

I wasn't really looking forward to this as I'm not huge on art. I was pleasantly surprised. The art was all interesting and great quality and I loved the idea of these WW2 fuel tanks now being used for all forms of art. I would recommend going as lots of the upcoming concerts as well as performances for kids looked... More

Went to a photographic exhibition in one of the tanks. Really great. This arts precinct is near the botanical gardens and in a very pleasant setting. Cool to wander around on a hot summers day. Worth a visit.

Using five old storage tanks and turning them into art venues (one art gallery, one a theater, not sure about the others) within the Cairns Botanical Gardens. Love the idea of finding new uses for old things otherwise sitting idle. Only visited the art gallery (others didn't seem open) and loved it. Heard music from another. Very central and cool/hip.

Have just been to the student art exhibition and it was amazing - dozens of multimedia works from thoughtful, creative and talented young people. Also thought it was great that the old water tank has been re-purposed for such a great community facility.

Visited this area to see an art display, ingenious use of old water tanks converted into areas for entertainment, displays and functions. The surrounding gardens are worth the time to wander around. Check local guides to see what events etc are on during you stay.

My hostel concierge told me about The Tanks and I'm so happy I went. It's a multi-complex arts center located inside 3 fuel tanks in Cairns, just adjacent to the entrance to the botanical gardens. One holds a performing arts venue, another a gallery. There are four in total, but I was only able to check out two. I appreciated... More

Have just been to the Children's Festival at the Tanks Art Centre in Cairns thinking it would be worth the frustration of finding a park and braving the crowd. Well, let me tell you, it wasn't. We have been to children's art festivals before in other parts of Queensland and really enjoyed them, but this event at the Botanical Gardens... More

Hi Karen, Thank you for your feedback on our event, we value your comments and will take them on board for future planning. We appreciate that finding a park can be difficult in this area when we have major events. All our advertising did mentioned that there would be free and ticketed events. The two main attractions, Jay Laga’aia and... More

Fantastic market on the last Sunday of each month. Music under the trees next to the tanks with a bratwurst, and then a homemade cupcake... A perfect Sunday morning with 3 small children and their $1 books from the little book stall near the cupcakes!
