A fascinating - but very cramped - train ride

the views make this trip worthwhile - but the "carriages" are reminiscent of the "workers" transport you might find taking them along a mine tunnel to the workface. nevertheless... read more

Me and my partner loved it. We got the train as a return to mont - Louis (it flattens out after that I believe). Was a lovely journey. We went to the end of the carriage outside to get a better view, and it was great. Lots to see and very interesting. Mont Louis was very nice too, small little... More

Supposedly one of the 'Great train journeys of the world' but most of the views were obscured by trees and vegetation. The Train Rouge at Rivesaltes is a far better trip with better views and rolling stock and a running commentary. If you only have time for one do the Train Rouge

The train is very slow and relaxing, meandering through the countryside and over impressive viaducts. The end to end journey is quite long, circa 3 hours. We took the the train the whole length from Latour de Carol to Villefranche de Conflent and returned the following day. That was perhaps a bit too long on the train after a long... More

This is an overpriced tourist rip-off. The train kept stopping due to a poor power supply and eventually limped into a station where there was a dual piece of track. It then stopped. It had taken ages to reach stop number three. The replacement train was just the next one on the service which arrived very late anyway. We were... More

An unusual experience and enjoyable train trip with lots of splendid scenery of valleys , bridges, and mountains. We went as far as Mont Louis and then travelled back by our organised coach.

If you are in the region now and contemplating this trip reconsider. We set out and the train struggled along, the smell of an overheating engine was soon apparent. After a rather scary moment on a suspension bridge we ground to a halt.we then waited an hour and a half for a bus to arrive to return us to the... More

A very chilled out experience. The scenery is stunning. Bring a picnic and go for a nice hike or walk wherever you decide to get off.

A highlight of our trip to Spain and Southern France, this was a magical trip into the Pyrennes. There are rumors that it may be too expensive to maintain these trains for too much longer. Don't wait, you might not have a chance to experience this in a year or two. Also recommend the early morning train if you are... More

We did a return trip from Villefranche to Bourge Madame and could not fault it. A definite must for lovers of trains, nature and a very good day out! Well operated and excellent value. A bonus was the fact that Bourge Madame was on the frontier with Spain! We had lunch at a bar immediately on the Spain side of... More
