We went there because of some reviews here telling it was the best thing they did in China, so our expectations were quite high. But it is definetly not as beautiful as Zhangjiajie, Huashan or Huangshan. However it has very nice scenery and it was not very crowded. You can easily escape the "Disney-world" kind of things. We had a nice... More

I came here with a group and I wish we would have stayed longer, this place scenery is stunning. Our tour guide's English was not the best but his kindness and attitude and excitment about the places we were visiting made our trip so good. We honestly stayed explored the site less than 3 hours and then stayed overnight at... More

Read KiMAGIC's review...he's got it right. Who cares if it's Disneyland. I believe that's the biggest attraction in the world. Disney should actually buy this place, IMO. If you're not in a wheelchair the Qixian Canyon is a must. Only away from the PC police can one enjoy this challenge without safety harnesses & warnings every 10 feet. Try to... More

While visiting Pingyao I arranged a day-trip to Mian Shan. The hotel arranged for a driver (no English) for 300 RMB for the day. At the entrance you have the opportunity to hire an English speaking guide for the day. Then it is onto a bus and a goo 30 to 40 minute ride up twisting winding roads (with spectacular... More

The scenery is great but it is disappointing to realize that the structures are all recreations and not even rebuilt. The whole place is presented as "real" but the Buddhist Monk isn't even a real monk. It was disconcerting to see other tourists, Chinese and foreign, seem to believe that this was authentic and not reproduced . A bit like... More

This is about one hour drive South of Pingyao. You need to buy a ticket for 150 RMB or so to get access to the whole site, which is too vast to visit on foot. Buses run fairly frequently ferrying visitors from one part of the site to the next. Some of the temples are magnificient, others are in serious... More

November 2014, after a day in Ancient City Pingyao, instead of hiring a guide, and or taxi, we took a train early morning to Jiexiu. It took about half an hour, and saved a lot of money. We paid 50 RMB to the taxi to go to Mian Shan Scenic area. After procedures with tickets and hotel accomodations, in central... More

Made a day trip from Pingyao. Hostel organised a car for Y90 a person and the driver waited for us. No student discount for non Chinese students. It felt like the kind of place that could have been unpleasantly busy in peak season, but was really nice in early November. The park runs along one side of a mountain gorge... More

As other reviewers have written - it's very hard to find information online about MianShan, but it is a very worthwhile trip to visit! We booked a hotel which I believed was at the entrance to the mountain scenic area with intention to arrive late afternoon to have the full day at the attraction the next morning. On arriving at... I went on a major Chinese holiday, so it was PACKED, but it was really beautiful with buildings clinging to the mountain side. The walk up to the cave behind the waterfall was very crowded and not another westerner in sight, but worth it. Rather incongruously there were dinosaurs in the middle of the stream and a strange dragon at... More
