While visiting Kashgar, I did a day trip to Lake Karakul arranged by my guide, Elvis. We stopped just before Karakul to admire this lake (also known as "Corner Lake". The color is stunning and the surrounding sand dunes and mountains make it just that much better! The sand dune mountains did not exist before 140 years ago. A large... More

It was so beautiful and it is so near to the highway. We never expect such spectacular white sand with blue lake in the middle of the highway. You truly need to stop and get out and stand on the edge in order to absorb the incredible beauty Don't just drive past it with out spending at lease 2 hour away from other people and your vehicle

Obviously it is dependent on the weather! We passed it one way in excellent weather and were properly rewarded: breathtakingly beautiful views of the lake, without a ripple on the water with amazing reflections. On the way back it was windy and nothing of the previous reflections was there! What a pity! At least we had a go at it!
