Visited this fantastic little museum today on a bit of a whim and I'm so glad we did! Fascinating chronological history of Torrington including lots of artefacts and pieces with a strong connection to Torrington.
Separated in to rooms with one made up as an old hardware store which included a huge number of items which had been sold in the town. Upstairs there is a room full of machines from the old glove making factory which was very interesting. This is a great place for anyone interested in social history.
The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable about the items and history of Torrington. There is no charge to visit the museum but a box for donations instead. Would definitely recommend this hidden gem to anyone interested in history.

We visited yesterday, the welcome was warm as the usual Mayfair banner across the square 'us be plaised to see ee'. I visited last when the museum was still based in the upstairs of the town hall, I liked the qwirky museum then, but the move to the new location and the most recent re-opening of the collection is a credit to the town. The collection now tells a story, it is about the local community, it brings information to the present day with local names and recent events adding to the layers of time explored.
The building is bigger than I realised so excited to know this little museum is still to grow. I will be back.

On a visit to Torrington (one of my favourite towns in North Devon) we decided to visit the museum - and what a brilliant museum it is. Clearly a lot of thought and effort has gone into the displays. The information boards take you on a chronological journey of the town through time. There is a room dedicated to the glove factory and another room set up as a hardware store - complete with a wonderful till. Everything in this museum has a relevance to the town. Another added bonus is the book shop on site which sells second hand books at a very reasonable price. The volunteers we spoke to were knowledgeable about the town and the items on display. Those responsible for this museum should be congratulated. If you are in the area or indeed local to the area I would recommend you visit. You will recieve a warm welcome!

I visited this interesting little museum today and wasn’t disappointed.
What I would call an ‘old school’ display (there are no interactive screens or monitors) the old type ‘look and see’ displays cover the history of the local area including the Battle of Torrington of 1646.
The museum is well worth a visit.

A community museum in historic premisses.
The glove room was interesting
I learnt a lot about the local events about the Civil War.
There was a lot to see.
Could do with more investment in the infrastructure perhaps from community grants and/or lottery funding.
The volunteers were doing their best to maintain this valuable asset for the community heritage

A delight to behold. The volunteers are wonderful. They are doing an important job for the community. There are so many stories still to be told. Support it!!!

Packed full with fascinating local history, this charming, haphazard little museum is well-worth a visit. Really loved it! (Big thank you to the volunteers who run the museum - it's a gem.)

A small free (although donations gratefully received) museum in the centre of Torrington. It is full of local artefacts concerning lace making, the civil war and WWII. Information boards about local 'celebrities' including the Rev Keble-Martin. Some beautiful artwork about flora and fauna. Many artefacts cannot be displayed due to the lack of space which is to be addressed. We were taken around by a very knowledgeable guide who was obviously passionate about his subject. Well worth the couple of hours we spent here. The volunteers were most helpful and friendly.
