Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Went for a dip in the sea somewhere in the evening around 6pm.

Ventured little deep and felt like plastic bags hitting my legs, later noticed a slight pain developing, presence of mind said its jelly fish, came out immediately.

Had stings on my lower legs and fingers.

This beach is located at the end of an avenue leading from the east end of the church. This avenue is lined on either side by various shops selling various things. One get their hair removed, one can get to buy replacement hairs, buy trinkets, souvenirs anything. The ambience of the place is anything but serene as would be expected from any commercialised place of worship.
There are a few decent restaurants near the beach end where various seafood are on display, especially in the evenings. The prices are reasonable
The beach looks really unsafe with strong tidal waves and a narrow beachhead. There are enough warnings about the dangers and electric eels visiting the beach in the evening. Enough people have died here. Please watch out

A big beach close to the Church. The sea is quite rough and one needs to be careful. It is a very touristy beach, with lots of vendors around. Good to visit the beach if you are in Velankani, specially after visiting the Church.

Located near the famous church Vellankanni, the beach can be reached by walk through a row of shops. The wave is soft and goes over your feet like snow. But the beach is littered with garbage and waste. Therefore, one has to tread carefully till the shore is reached. The sand is soft. However, as the sun sets, the wave becomes stronger. Ships coming and exiting from the port of Nagapatinam can be found in the distance. The beach gets very attractive with a full moon in the sky. Do carry a white hat and adequate water and food. The cost of these near the beach is exhorbitant.

The Velankanni beach is undoubtedly a favourite destination for many devotees. But it's sad that it's not well maintained and has become extremely dirty. The church authorities should look into this and ensure they take over and maintain this place so that it can become a popular destination.

The beach attracts pilgrims, and the beach is in a sorry state. The local governing body and the tamilnadu government could spruce the condition and make it eco friendly.

Not a very clean Beach, a great number of stalls close to the beach area selling music CDs, Rosary, Barber shops etc which is not apt for a beach area. Guess the beach is also small due to the Tsunami which affected this part of the world in Dec 2004

It is a very dirty small beach. In almost all the beaches in India, vendors spoil the beach area.
Here it is the worst possible situation with vendors having shops very close to the sea.

If you want a peaceful, clean, long beach, skip this beach
