Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Kathgodam is a very small, scenic town in the foothills of Kumaon region where most tourists arrive either by train or by road, and continue onward to popular vacation spots like Nainital, Mukteshwar, Bhimtal etc. We had a 5 hour stopover in Kathgodam before catching a bus back to New Delhi. We spent a good amount of that time relaxing near the beautiful Gaula River dam. One can walk down up to the river or sit around the dam and enjoy the cool breeze. A word of caution- if you are a group of girls or traveling solo, don't stick around here post sunset.

And if you are not traveling by train, you can check out the Kathgodam Railway Station. It looks straight out of a period film, and very clean for an Indian railway station.

Kathgodam literally meaning "Timber Depot" is a small city located on the last railway station of North Eastern Railway zone. Developed around 1900's when the railway station was developed, it is the gateway to the Kumaon Himalayas. From here all the popular tourist cities like Bhimtal, Nainital, Mukteshwar, Sattal, Ranikhet, Binsar, Naukuchiyatal, Almora can be reached.

How to reach: It is easily connected to other parts of India through many trains which terminate here primarily being the New Delhi Kathgodam Shatabdi. It is also connected by road through Haldwani onward to other cities like Delhi, Barely and Lucknow. Most of the people coming by car make a stop at Kathgodam for refueling and meal before proceeding with their onward journey.

Eating Out: Even though it is a small city it has no dearth of food joints owing to the constant flow of tourists throughout the year. Udupiwala, Krazy Kitchen, Woodpecker Food Plaza, Lee's Kitchen are some of the popular options for a meal here.

Site Seeing: There is not much to see itself in Kathgodam apart from the Sheetla Devi temple, as the main attractions are way up the hills.

Overall a nice small town from where you can start your holidays on the hills. Easy to reach and not overcrowded but have all the modern facilities in a small town.

Other than being the last railway station into the territory of Kumaon, there's nothing much about this village. And, this is no more a village, it is now almost seamlessly integrated with Haldwani. If you are driving up to Nainital/ Almora or up the hills, stop further up in the hills in any of those smaller shops for a chai and pakodas !!

My wish was to go visit Baba Neem Karoli Ashram in Kaichidham. The nearest station is kathgodam, so I booked a ticket online on shatabdi for New Delhi to kathgodam. This is a short 5.5 hrs trip and reaches around noon time. The station serves as the entry point to many destinations in the hill state of Uttranchal. The local people are generally energetic and well tuned with the winding roads of the area. There are a lot of eateries offering both veg and non veg foods. IRCTC too has a canteen run by a lady and her staff. About 5 minutes walk there is a decent restaurant cum bar, right next to the SBI bank branch. One can easily get private taxis, as well as shared taxis and buses to various destinations at affordable prices. To give an idea... Bus ride for under Rs 100, shared cab under Rs 300, and private cab for around 2000 one way for most destinations.
