About
Charnwood Forest Alpacas is located in Boundary, a hamlet nestled on the Leicestershire and Derbyshire border and situated on the outskirts of Ashby-de-la-Zouch. Our 110 acre farm at Charnwood Forest Alpacas is one of the first, original and largest alpaca farms open to the public in the UK. We are passionate about sharing the wonderful personalities of not just our alpacas, but all of the animals at the farm, and offer experiences with lots of our animals to help share our passion with you. Or pop into our petting farm and meet our alpacas, horses, donkeys, sheep, pigs, chickens and cats. Then finish with a visit to The Chilli Bean for a quick drink and a bite to eat or tasty afternoon tea!

I'll start with the positive, the farm was a working farm in good working farm condition, the ladies at reception were friendly and the girl leading the experience group was knowledgeable and friendly.

The not so good.... Booking this was a nightmare,
Our experience was cancelled 2 hours before it was due to begin and no refund or discount for our booking (we were offered discount on a return second booking....but I'm not likely to spend more money with charnwood at this point)

I understand the alpacas need to be kept safe and some weather may not be suitable, however having gotten my children excited about the experience, and taken time off work to do this, I feel we should have been compensated for the disruption which wasn't our fault.

The receptionist never answers the phone if you need to call.

During the walk the alpacas choose their own pace which we weren't aware of prior to being on the walk, which means you don't get to walk with your group.

This meant my daughter didn't really enjoy her experience as she was on her own a lot. For this reason I don't think 10 years olds should be made to have their own alpaca.
The whole ratio of adults to children is off.

The experience was so over priced, and their should be a family ticket option. I didn't feel we got £100 worth of activity.

This experience is sold as cute lovely animals who like to bond with people, when actually they are just big cute unfriendly sheep, who really don't like people at all.

Id recommend for adults only, as it's not worth the cost of taking a family and children will be disappointed that the alpacas aren't that keen on being patted.

Amazing time. Very well Organised. The alpacas look very well looked after and it was so enjoyable walking with them. Our guide (Gemma) was very good and informative and safety was paramount. Will definitely return. The only negative is the drive up to the farm. Lots of pot holes which need filling in. We had a coffee afterwards at the cafe. Staff very friendly.

Great experience with the weanlings. Only problem were the terrible pot holes in the driveway. As they are full of water you can't tell how deep they are and surely cars must be being damaged by this. We would come more often if the driveway could be improves.

My daughter and I purchased the alpaca walk and What a wonderful experience it was! Our guide Gemma was super friendly, fun and full of interesting facts about alpacas. The alpacas are very well looked after and have plenty of open space to run around. The alpaca are full of character and super cute! We would definitely recommend and hope to return in the near future.

An amazing morning spent at Charnwood Forest on the donkey walk. My husband and I had Barney and Noddy for lovely walk around the farm with Amber and Evie - very friendly and helpful handlers who both gave lots of information about the donkeys. The cafe lunch to follow is also highly recommended - lovely friendly team, thank you for a great day out :0)
