About
The pink lakes of Las Coloradas are one of Mexico's most mesmerizing sights, known for their bubblegum-pink waters, soft white sands, and powder blue skies. The pink color is caused by the high salinity of the salt flats and the presence of microorganisms. Visit in the early afternoon when the lakes are the most vibrant under the strong midday sun. The best way to visit this remote lagoon is on a full-day tour from Cancun, Playa del Carmen, or Riviera Maya. These tours typically include the Ria Lagartos nature reserve, where you can spot flamingos, crocodiles, and other wildlife in its wetlands. – Tripadvisor

    Worth it!
We saw this place from photos online and stopped by to check it out on our way through Mexico. When you are first driving into the town, there are people that will try to stop you and sell you a tour. I'm not sure if they were associated with Las Coloradas but it seemed a little sketchy. We drove straight to the tourist center and bought a tour directly from the counter. They offered tours with an English and Spanish guide, but you need a guide to enter. Erica was our tour guide and she was wonderful. She taught us all about the company that makes the salt, and how it is processed. It was all very interesting. She mentioned that YOU CANNOT SWIM in the salt lakes because it is used for human consumption and it is unsanitary. People used to take pictures of themselves in the lakes to post online, but you cannot do that anymore. She also said the best time to see the pink color is April or December. We went in January and it was still very pink. Hurricane season (June-November) is not a time to visit because all the rain messes with the salinity levels, and the color is not as radiant. Our walking tour took us about an hour and it was about $380 MXN ($22 USD) per person. We think that it was worth it. We even stopped by the gift shop after to buy some salt produced by the pink lake ($2 USD) Thank you to Erica and everyone at Las Coloradas for this experience!

Las Coloradas -- A Truly Magical Place!
This place is Amazing. We took this tour with Sol Turquesa in Merida. We visited several places in addition to Las Coloradas. Our guide, Eduardo, was wonderful! He explained everything and how the salt is harvested from the ponds. The pink water is so fascinating and caused by several things, one being the flamingos and their diet of brine shrimp and sea monkeys! Eduardo took amazing photos for us. This will definitely be a place and trip we will never forget! ❤️

I was part of a large tour group and we had 2 guides. One Spanish speaking and one English speaking. My guide just decided to take pictures of what he likely thought to be pretty ladies! By sound of it the Spanish speaking people got a good tour but all I could understand with my extremely limited Spanish was something about Shrimp making it Pink! It's a long way from Cancun to not learn anything!

It is extremely expensive. It doesn't worth it. It should be a public space and I do not why they privatize it. They want to charge for everything.

So amazing worth every bit of our time and money!! Money very well spent on this trip.
First we went to the pink salt water(Los Colorados) truly amazing!
Then we went on a boat ride to get in this really healing mud that makes your skin feel like a baby. On the way there we seen crocodiles, pelicans and flamingos
Had an amazing late lunch or early
Dinner . Lastly we went into a crocodile farm. Here, you get to hold small crocodile and also feed larger ones. so fun great pictures. You will love this trip! Pack some snacks for the bus ride

It's a salt processing lake and they are very aware that they are an IG Hotspot so they have a few instagrammable spots that they have set up which is perfect!

Very rare sight of a pink lake! Would recommend going in afternoon (12 PM) to see the pink shade if you go earlier or late will see it as orange. I would not recommend spending money to walk towards the las colorados board or pay the local guides (they don't know anything) for a private tour. It's all a scam. You can get good pics right before the information center. So, it's not worth paying for it!

Amazing pink lake. Go in the afternoon. It looks so pink and later if it’s cloudy it looks more light orange. We didn’t go to the visitor center, it was not reasonable we just took pictures from the parking lot.
