About
There are almost 200 steps to the top of the Castle, where you can take in one of the best views in Jersey. As you explore the network of staircases, towers and secret rooms, you’ll discover hidden treasures and gruesome stories of castle life through specially commissioned artwork. In the turrets you’ll find the medieval ‘wheel of urine’, and in the cellars ‘the witches in hell’. High on the battlements with a view of the surrounding countryside and distant French coast, you’ll stand shoulder to shoulder with wooden soldiers who ‘guard’ the Castle from invasion. Don’t miss world-renowned artworks “The Queen” and “Equanimity” in the Medieval Great Hall, by artist Chris Levine and holographer Rob Munday, commissioned to commemorate celebrate Jersey’s relationship with the monarchy.

    A Castle to remember
We were very lucky we had a guided tour with Miriam a volunteer guide. She was so delightful and made the tour really interesting and very informative. We stayed all afternoon and were the last to leave. Great place to visit. I recommend a guided tour to get the most out your visit.

RETURN VISIT TO THIS OLD CASTLE IN JERSEY
A return visit to this castle in Jersey. It's a really interesting place to visit - but word of warning that some of the steps are quite steep and you may need plenty of puff to get to the top. The views from the battlements are breathtaking, and the castle itself is well worth a visit if you are in Jersey. Plenty of wall lizards inhabit the castle. I just wonder whether more could be made of the castle in terms of exhibitions.

    Historic delight
This was my favourite place in Jersey. A fabulous view out to sea and a very complete and expansive castle. A real rabbit warren inside with lots to explore! Keep your eyes on the sun facing walls to see the local lizards!

    Fantastic!!
We had a fantastic visit to this great castle. Loads to see and explore. You need about 2 hours minimum to find every part of the castle. We were assisted by Gary. He was informative and so helpful. Nice guy!! It is a must if you come to Gorey.

    A must visit castle.
Stunning castle with great views. This had to be the most open castle to view in its entirety, it seemed no area was off limits. Staff were pleasant and you are able to join in a tour with a guide or do your own thing. There are many steps to climb, some very steep, some spiral staircases, so not good for unfit, or disabled. A real value for money visit lasting a good couple of hours, all in all a Jersey must visit gem.

    This is a castle !
Must see castle ! This is the original castle you think about - loads of tricky steps but amazing sculptures tied in with quirky and fascinating facts - so worth a visit for children and adults alike and make sure you find the witches and the fabulous beasts ( they aren’t lit very well ) as well as the family tree sculpture which I thought was just brilliant - we spent over 2 hours here and it was so worth it . Their little cafe is also good serves nice coffee and cream scones

Brilliant trip & the views are worth the ascent!
Travelled across to Gorey on a sunny Friday - on arrival we walked to the end of the street to access Mont Orgueil Castle. A slight lack of signs but we found it by following everyone else! A bit of a climb to reach the entrance, we found out on our exit that there is an easier route to navigate!! Once in we ascended to the top and enjoyed the brilliant views, looking out towards France in the distance and internally over Gorey. There are so many bits to see as we worked our way down the different levels. Keep an eye out for the native wall lizards sunning themselves on the brickwork, very cute! The torture chamber was brilliant - could use this today on some of our miscreants, but then I'm sure someone would complain!

    Great tour!
Geoff was an absolutely amazing tour guide! We’re not overly into tours but thought we’d try it being free with admission - and no regrets! Very informative and interesting, getting to see the keys parts. And the view from the top was lovely!

    Good outing for families
We loved our visit to Mont Orgueil Castle as part of our 4 for 3 ticket. The small play area and dressing up room was very popular with the kids and the layout was interesting, while not specifically guided you didn't know what you might find next. We also managed to spot several of the wall lizards enjoying the sunshine, the views from the top were lovely.
It's great that you've had good use of your 4for3 Heritage Pass and you had sunshine too!!! Thank you for your great review.

    Well worth a visit
One of the best and most interesting medieval castles we've been too. Masses of rooms inside the castle with lots of hidden places that "appear" . Awesome views as well. Nice of the castle to acknowledge Time Team and the discoveries they made. Only thing to advise is be prepared for LOTS of steps! Lots of them! If you have mobility issues then the castle might not be for you.
Thank you for leaving us this review following your visit to Mont Orgueil and we are very proud that you describe it as one of the best and interesting medieval castles you have visited. We do advise visitors to take their time with the steps, and to rest and explore on every level and ward of the castle in order to obtain the most pleasurable experience.

Falconer talk was very interesting and a little extra, as we have been to the castle before. Lots of steps but amazing views from all levels. Guides are very helpful and plenty of them to help out. Good use of 4 for 3 pass too

I went on the 19th June with my mum and we had a fab tour with Marlene. We learnt a great deal about the history and the significance of the castle and really enjoyed Marlene’s knowledge of the site. It was a tad windy though! Thank you so much 😊

Got the bus from Lib Station on the scenic beach road. Arrived on Gorey and took the steps up to the castle. Friendly welcome at the ticket office and nice leisurely walk around and up. There are 200 steps in total but they are in sections so maybe 20 and then you can walk around outside or into the castle rooms. So many things to see inside so this is not a boring ruin! The late Queen Elizabeth gallery of photos are stunning.
Amazing views from the top - and a sense of accomplishment! Suitable for any ages.

Thank you for your feedback with regards to your recent visit to Mont Orgueil. As you mention lots of steps, but easily managed if broken up into the various wards, which gives you the opportunity to explore this medieval castle to the full. We are glad you enjoyed the amazing views from the top!

I take a group of school children every year to Mont Orgueil and it is always excellent. Interesting history, lots of things to see and well-informed guides who do tours. This year, we opted for 'Sir Walter Raleigh' as our guide. I cannot recommend him highly enough - he was truly awesome. Our oh so cool 12 year-olds were enraptured and hung on his every word, as he told them the history of the castle and of Sir Walterl He even taught them to duel in pairs, never one slipping out of character. He was superb and really added to the whole experience. Highly recommended.

Thank you for leaving such a wonderful review regarding your school group visit to Mont Orgueil, including the guided tour with Sir Walter Raleigh. We are very luck to have such an engaging and competent historical re-enactor, who delivers the history telling of this castle in such an entertaining manner. Sir Walter Raleigh is part of our Living history team and can be seen regularly at Mont Orgueil on Tuesday afternoons, included in your admission ticket

What a delightful piece of history. It was very windy and cold when we went, which made walking outside quite challenging, but it did not spoil our visit to this enchanting castle. We were lucky to have a tour of the grounds which was very interesting. There was plenty to do for the kids too, the playground, the dress up room and the stocks were a highlight! The views from the top of the castle were stunning. They have an onsite cafe as well if one feels peckish after the walk. We would love to return in better weather.

A very traditional castle. There are 200 steps up to the top and then you can work your way down through all the rooms admiring the artwork and the history. A wonderful hologram of the late Queen and information about how it was created. Great views over Gorey and the beach.
