After war condition
Sep 2021
Such a pity, I hear this place looked way batter during the communist, now a days is in total disarray. Wrecked buildings everywhere, it is such a sore for the eyes. I've read the history, impressive, built by Romans and passed along from Austro-Hungarian empire to Romania.. this town and the entire complex was renovated many time in the past the last being in '70s by the communist regime. What happened after that? It is a shame that the modern Romania neglects and ignores the importance and the massive historical content of this beautiful town. The settings are breathtaking, full 5 stars for that, all the rest a 0.

Beauty and dispair
Jul 2020
This is probably one of the most beautiful cities in Romania. What a pity that it is in such state of dispair!

Dissapointing

This place has amazing potential. It could easily be a pearl of Romanian tourism. Unfortunately, it is left to rot in neglect. Very sad

iWas there, the imperial glow appears again
Jul 2020
it was a very nice surprise, to see that things are moving in the good way; there are good odds to see again in some years the amazing imperial brightness of the area
even now it's so nice, even now the beauty of the buildings is still there, despite of the decay
the place has a huge potential for tourism, for spa but also for romantic moments
previous time i saw the place it was just a ruin, it's so good to see the differences

Romantic Destination for Honeymooners - Ancient Roman Spa meets 19th Century Architecture
May 2019
Aside spending some time strolling around the resort town Baile Herculane, (the first documented resort in Romania, that was at the peak of its development during the 19th century), you can also enjoy some interesting locations such as the derelict Neptune Imperial Baths, a monument of the 19th century architecture, the Hercules statue, the Old Train Station built in 1886, the Old Casino Building, and a museum displaying ancient Roman artifacts inside the Roman Hotel. Don't miss the beautiful sight of a sequoia tree by the Old Train Station. The city itself is quaint and utterly romantic, with lots of beer gardens, gazebos, and bistros, great for honeymooners. Its sulfur spas are great for people who suffer of dermatitis and other immune skin conditions. For the fit traveler in search of adventures, a great gateway to Domogled National Park (park entrance is located 10 minutes drive from downtown) or Nera Valley National Park .

Interesting drive through
Jul 2019 • Friends
Unfortunately we did not have time to stop but we saw lots of superb old buildings and there were many senior locals walking to the hot mineral springs in their bathing suits on the side of the road. There were also big hotel towers near crumbling old structures.
A truly unique location.

Beautiful decay
May 2019 • Couples
This place is a real gem. Spoiled by decay, but hopefully it will resurrect in the coming years. Lots of hiking trails and treatment options

Sad to see that everything is ruined.
May 2019 • Couples
This town has a long history of human habitation since the Paleolithic era. There is a legend that Hercules stopped here to rest and bathe. The best period in the history of this town was from 1930 to 1990, after that this place has been abandoned and has become ruins today.
