- Trevor M3 contributionsAn overlooked English treasureSimon Jenkins, in his excellent book England's Cathedrals, sings Southwell's praises.I'd never even heard of it so traveled up from London -only 75 mins on the train . What a wonderful place.Beautiful, full of history and almost completely devoid of tourists! And the guides - Joanne, Martin and Chris -were terrific.Visited February 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 15 February 2023

- Nicky_11186390Winchester, United Kingdom74 contributionsA feast for all the sensesPart of a visiting choir as a non singing partner. An amazing building filled with history and such helpful guides. Make sure you look at the leaves in the chapter house and the many, many carved heads on the inside and outside including Donald Trump! Don’t forget the intricately carved pews in the quire. Make sure you also look at the roman wall plaster and stunning stain glass.Visited April 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 18 April 2023

One of the countries hidden or unknown gems. Unsurpassed architecture, quiet, a great spiritual experience (if that is what you seek), and a place not to be missed. You should also walk in the Archbishop's Palace gardens. You won't regret either.
