It takes a little planning to get here by public transport (No.100 bus from Nottingham city centre), but it is well worth it. The exterior of the minster is glorious enough, however, the interior is the star of the show. The carvings of leaves, particularly in the Chapter House, make this wonderful church worth a lengthy visit.

This is a fine medieval building.Mainly Norman with other additions over the years. My visit took 2 hours but much more time could easily be spent there as so muchto see.

The coffee was good but the cakes although pricey seemed a bit dry Main meals seemed expensive, compared to the local pubs and cafes that offered some good meals proportionally better value

Southwell is a parish church, a minster and a cathedral and has been virtually unchanged since its founding in 1108. So wonderful to see the Norman towers on the west front and the imposing pillars and arches in the nave. The modern stained glass in the west window by Patrick Reyntiens (1996) is beautiful with each panel composed of angels... More

Following a visit to the Victorian workhouse we went into Southwell for lunch and followed it by an inquisitive look at the minster. We were greeted on arrival inside by a very friendly lady who explained a few things about the history of the minster and what there was to see and was happy for us to approach her to... More

Was surprised how large this church was. The clergy staff were very knowledgeable and helpful with sharing lots of history and information about the Minster. Also the Bishops Palace was very interesting as well.

Interesting and well maintained building. Nice coffee shop and gift shop too. We included a visit to the Archbishop Bishop's Palace which is right next door. There is a pay and display car park opposite on Church Street. The first two hours are free, but you will need to get a ticket and display it. Two hours should be plenty of... More
