Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Interesting history about Pythagoras. Drove to the location and hiked up the steep stairs. Most of the steps and railings are in good shape. Challenging walk but not impossible for the average person. There is a small gift shop with beverages for purchase. Enjoyed the scenery.

Wonderful views! We walked all the way up from Votsalakia but saw others also drive either part of the way or all the way up to where the actual climb to the cave began. The whole walk is about 3km, after which there are around 300 steps up to the cave. Note that there are two caves. We visited the more easily accessible one. The other one would have required actual rock climbing for a couple of meters.
A few warnings, though: if you are afraid of heights, this might not be the place for you. I did it, but felt quite anxious with the stairs being steep and the handrails being shaky at times.
It gets hot! If you decide to walk all the way from Votsalakia, dress accordingly and bring water. Leave early.
There is a small shop/ cafe by the stairs which sells drinks and some souvenirs.

Worth the effort. Very easily accessible from Marathokambos. Everyone complaints about the road from Votsalakia. Do NOT use that road. Drive from Marathokambos. Lovely, scenic and tarred route all the way to the base. Have a good breakfast before attempting the 325 odd steps. 😀. Take a bottle of water and a good camera. Awsome view!

Access by car from Marathokambos or hike about one hour from Votsalakia. (Don't try to drive the road from Votsalakia unless you have a 4x4!) Then many steps upt to the cave. More interesting was the cave to the side (half way up turn right, no signs), but it's a very hard climb up a vertical rock with a rope. Refreshments and souvenirs at the bottom/ parking area.

Poorly accessible by car. Been there many times by car with no issues. This time the road was worse than ever. Big crater in the road and impassable possibly from the earthquake. Had to turn around which takes skill on a one car width road with lots of gravel. Recommend driving as far as possible and then hike the rest of the way.

Nice up hill walk approx 4 kilometres from the main road by the water. Took approx 45-50 minutes to walk to the cave from where you had a beautiful view of the sea. The cave them self wasn’t anything, but the history about how Pythagoras had been hiding there and taught his student made the trip worth the walk.

Climbing to this cave is a bit of a challenge but the view is worth it. Imagine Pythagoras living here, teaching his students and observing the surroundings for enemies,

Visited today and, in contrast to some earlier reports, would suggest driving from Marathocampos now. This road is made up now though it has some pretty sheer drops but much better than the track from Votsalakia.
The steps to the caves aren't easy going but are manageable in phases. We are 53 and did the climb at about 1pm. Sure it's hard work but not as bad as some are saying. The view from the caves is more spectacular than the caves themselves but it is an interesting back story and I'm glad I visited.

Jogged all the way from Votsalakia to the cave, which was a nice but tiring course because of the warm weather. The last part was quite steep, especially the final stairs to the cave. The cave was cool which was pleasant after the warm trip, and offered a decent view of the coast
