Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

In the village of Stanton Drew, not far from Cheddar or Bristol, is a well-preserved stone circle and nearby cove of three stones. It is supposedly the third-largest stone-circle complex in England and includes a larger circle plus two smaller ones. Much of the circle layout is intact and fairly easy to discern. The cove has three stones next to each other and is thought to have been for rituals.

One legend has it that the cove stones are a wedding party who were turned to stone because the guests danced on a Sunday, supposedly because the party was dancing on Saturday and the Devil appeared to keep playing music after midnight and into Sunday.

The site appears to be quiet with few tourists. There were a couple other people visiting the circle when we were there and nobody else at the cove.

There is a small parking lot next to the field containing the circle, which is used for livestock. Visiting it is free but one is supposed to pay a pound for parking. The cove is next to the Druids Arms pub a short distance away, and there is a small car park there. It is also free. In the village, there is a sign indicating which way to go for each one.

It was turning into a nice afternoon so we went to see what parking there was and well, apart from the 4 odd spaces right next to the entrance to the field which were not signposted at all, the other alternatives mentioned in other reviews turned out to be a no go.
The local pub only let you use their carpark if you buy a drink or meal, the other carpark by the Village Hall only allows permit holders or hirers to the hall.
The stones were seemingly a random spread of various sized rocks with no special reason, cow muck everywhere but a peaceful enough place on a Sunday afternoon.
Certainly no Avebury as it has been described.
The cove we didn't even try to get to as the described parking was te pub carpark which had the usual "your not welcome unless you buy a meal" signs everywhere.

Until you read about it you really would not appreciate quite how special this place is!
Have an afternoon out and combine with either lunch or supper in a local pub!

and a great find. Note the donations box when you arrive. Stones set throughout a lovely meadow (watch where you step) adjacent to a charming village. Limited parking.

Out for a drive in the area and spotted the stone circle on our map. We eventually found it after driving along narrow lanes. Parked in one of the few parking places nearby, then walked across the field to view the stones. Information boards explain the construction and importance of the site..A very cold, wet day when we went, so we didn't go to the Cove.

Certainly worth a visit if you’re passing or nearby but not enough information to make it interesting enough to travel too far for.
Peaceful and interesting in a lovely part of the country.
Very limited parking and you can’t take dogs into the fields.
Not the most ‘impressive’ site you’ll ever visit but intriguing nonetheless.

Really interesting ruins of stone circles. Friends in the area told us its the third largest stone circle in the UK after Stonehenge and Avesbury. Very accessible, too. You can walk right up and touch the stones. Interpretive signage is helpful. Highly recommended.
