Conflicting messages on arrival - open per local tour guides but closed according to local tourist board. 45 minute ride on bus 56/103 from the cable car station brought us Ribeiro Frio, which has 2-3 shops, 2 levada walks and a trout hatchery.
We made this walk from Ribeiro Frio towards Portela. It was beautiful. Long distant walk (easy stepping about 4 hours) . When at Portela we took back a cab towards Ribeiro Frio which costs about 38€
