About
Sail In Asia is International Sailing School -ISSA's premier sailing school in Asia and is located in the beautiful and unspoilt Ao Yon Bay. We specialise in recreational sailing courses, with our 14-day Zero-to-Hero course by far our most popular which covers 4 internationally recognised certifications and enables graduates to charter in most countries. We offer many shorter courses that cater for all. Many of our students continue with their sailing career across the globe after learning with us! Our fleet means we take people on trips to islands with a choice from our trimaran (6-8 passengers; good for families), our 35ft racing yachts (5-7; good for adults), or our 26ft sports yachts . Send us an email or come and chat to us to find out which is best for you! As the only ISSA school in Asia able to train instructors you can rely on us to provide you with excellent skippers who can do it all or teach you as you sail around our beautiful islands. Outstanding course ,if you want to learn in paradise then this is the course .I did the yacht crew course and VHF radio course with the team in AO yon,can fault organisation and communication.Once I sorted contact out with the very efficient manager Jum,great communication re start tiles, transport arrangements etc .I stayed about 4k away and Jum arranged reliable daily pick ups.Instruction isnt top heavy and a nice mix of dry land theory and on board teaching.Majority is on board. My two instructors Dan and Jason were excellent ,hands on and hands off as needed ,great teaching skills .We were a mix of abilities ,four in group always rotating so all learning together and understanding necessity of team work .
Mix of yachts were sailed over four days ,giving a good grounding of basics .
Remember Phuket is very very hot so sun protection is vital ,full length sleeve rash vests and wide brimmed hats ,factor 50 sunscreen essential.Sailing gloves also recommended .Dan and Jason are great on hydration ,cooler chests with drink bottles /electrolytes etc provided on board .
Location is paradise ,on the beach with great little beach bar next door for lunchtime food and après cold beers .
I learnt a stack of skills ,I have come home to Pembrokeshire to learn to skipper and crew an 11m yacht .The course has given me confidence and an understanding of the skills and knowledge required in order to move on to skippering and crewing at sea competently .Next time I am in Phuket I will be back for more instruction and teaching .
So if you want to learn to sail in Phuket ,head to Sail Asia in Ao yon ,thoroughly recommend you learn from Jason and Dan and let Jum guide you through the admin.

I had a great experience doing the zero to hero course with Sail in Asia. It's an intensive 14 days but you come out of it feeling confident that you can be a valuable crew member to most recreational sailing yachts. I was in a very small group with practically 1:1 coaching, the instructors are top quality and they do a good job balancing the need to study theory with developing boat skills out on the water.

We’re very glad to have found Sail in Asia!

Looking for a sailing school in Asia 2024 was not easy, While many had websites, they were unresponsive, do not offer accredited courses, or appeared to be outright scams.

Already at the first contact SIA were very helpful, offering a course to match our availability, and helping with airport transfers and accommodation.

We found that this flexibility and helpfulness extended to the instructors as well, and spent 5 lovely days earning our ISSA Yacht Crew & VHF Radio certificates.

We highly recommend Sail in Asia to anyone looking to learn how to sail in a friendly and relaxed school, on a variety of boats and in a peaceful and beautiful environment.

We will be back later this year to complete the ISSA Inshore Skipper course.

We absolutely loved our Inshore Skipper Zero to Hero course with Sail in Asia.

The standard of professionalism is really high. We were taught by incredibly good sailors and more importantly, incredibly good teachers. We learned how to sail well and how to sail safely. Almost everyday we were in the water and there is so much to learn that even in light winds you are never bored.

We did a lot of research into different companies in South East Asia and into Europe, and this was by far the best reviewed and also if not the cheapest, incredibly close (even with the flights from Europe factored in!!). The value is so good, especially considering you get 14 full days of tuition.

The boats are maintained very well, and you sail on a variety of them, from monohulls to trimarans. From pretty much the get go you are sailing the boat, with the instructor clearly telling you what to do and why you're doing it. For the 14 day course do be prepared for classroom theory.

The location is great, perfect, clean sandy beaches with lots of cheap restaurants close by. It's in a quiet area of Phuket, but this is nice as after most days of sailing we wanted to chill locally. In saying that, a taxi and a short ride later you are in central Phuket with cool night markets. Many places close by also offer motorbike rental, money exchange, laundry, etc and supermarket right by the course location. The school can set you up with accomodation close by that massively beat booking.com in terms of rates.

I cannot recommend this course enough - it was simply amazing. Thank you to the whole team.

I have recently completed the Zero to Hero course, without any previous experience or exposure to sailing. I can only say that it was a wonderful experience, that I would suggest to anyone interested in learning how to sail! I have met amazing people during this course, crewmates, instructors, managers, helpers! I have found not just a very professional school with extremely prepared and professional instructors that will always make you feel safe..but also a family like environment, I will always be happy to go visit again! I can only recommend this amazing school, where women even if outnumbered are not just extremely respected but also empowered! Thank you to each single one, and a special thank to JUM, Mike and Dan! Looking forward to meeting you all again one day!

My wife and I took the Zero to Hero course. Overall a great experience. We had no experience sailing, but after 14 days felt confident sailing even if somewhat adverse windy weather. Mike taught the practical, on-the-boat portion of the course. He was extremely knowledgeable and very patient. Adam taught the theoretical, in class portion. Adam, too, was very knowledgeable and clear and concise with the course review. If you’re considering getting your bareboat captains license, I highly recommend Sail in Asia.

Thanks to Mike, Rob, Adam, David, K Jum, Sun and all the rest of the team. Very competent and professional team. I would like to mention especially Rob, who remains calm and professional even in the hariest of situations (we had Beaufort 7 rain storms in October). His calm competence allowed us to become beginner Skippers. The boats need a little TLC but I'm sure this will be arranged as soon as the Covid regulations are lifted here in Thailand. Highly recommend team, highly recommended sailing school! Thanks for your patience with us!
