Truly breathtaking views of the Cypriot nature, must be in the schedule for anyone visiting the region.

Although DO NOT fall for buggies or quad rentals, the roads can be very dangerous, besides the rough exposure to sun, dust and wind in a rather remote area. Also wouldn't recommend driving a regular there.

Simply pay the price and go with a Jeep Tour that has a professional driver familiar with the area, it's totally worth it.

The landscape and sea scape are beautiful. Definitely worth a visit as a change from hotels, restaurants and towns. Come for the scenery, views and peaceful vibe, rather than with expectations of particular special ‘things to see/do’ and you won’t be disappointed by nature.

Contrary to what you may believe, you are not Colin McRae and should not attempt to drive this road without a 4x4. We were foolish and made it 18km before getting stuck. Very pleasant scenery, however, and saw a great many walkers and cyclists (not many cars though...) take water and a vehicle equipped with a winch.

Yours sincerely,
Not Colin McRae

Just back after a terrible trip! 9 crammed into 8 spaces in a clapped out Landrover with no seat belts and a grumpy driver.
We’d booked it on a glass bottomed boat trip which was great. Asked if we needed a pack up but told we stopped in Latchi a fishing village with 35 restaurants.
First stop was in a banana plantation where we were told we were stopping at a place with one restaurant for lunch and we needed to prebook so he could phone in the order. Most people had packs up and we and another couple decided to risk it!
Stopped at Turtle beach where we had to be back in 20 minutes but we had to wait another 20 minutes for the driver to finish his swim!
One or two stops later we were at Aphrodite’s bath which was the lunch stop with yes! one restaurant! Only 40 minutes here so had to settle for a processed cheese sandwich!
We took a back road through Latchi so didn’t see it and didn’t go to Polis at all.
It was worse for another couple who thought they were going to the Troodos mountains.
We were a multi national group and we laughed about it and bonded in our adversity but the vehicle was unsafe, the driving scary and the driver seemingly punishing us for not ordering our lunch through him. He even put us out of the vehicle and drove off and left us and went out of sight leaving us to follow at one point! AVOID!

My partner was keen to see the turtle nests on Lara Beach, and we appeared to be quite close, coming from the Polis side. It appeared from the map that there were a few hundred yards of rough track before the road was tarmac once more, so, despite the guide book suggesting one needs a 4 wheel drive, we decided to try.
Maps are a little unreliable in Cyprus, satnavs don't seem to work, and there is no phone signal on the peninsula to access Google maps. It wasn't a few hundred yards, it was in fact 20 kilometres, and we had a rental Fiesta Style.
What followed was an exhilarating but undeniably dangerous trek. At first the track was surfaced after a fashion, then loose small stones. I started to worry when it became too narrow to turn back, and our only company was mountain goats and the now elusive nation treasure, the Mouflon.
The track was now quite large boulders, very narrow, with long drops over unprotected edges. We saw one other car early on, containing four young surfer guys, who looked as surprised to meet us as we were to meet them, and as we squeezed past said "Hey Dude".
The view however was stupendous, and we felt privileged to have been able to access this fabulous wilderness, though don't tell the hire car company! There were turtle nests marked on Lara Beach, and we came away fulfilled.

On our trip to Droushia two weeks ago,my husband and I set off to explore Akamas Peninsula. Akamas is located on the western tip of Cyprus and covers 230 km². It is an area of amazing natural beauty, completely unspoilt by development. You can have access to this area either by boat or by Jeep or a 4-wheel drive. We had the right car but we made three serious mistakes before setting off :

1. We didn't hire a guide.
2. We didn't have a map as I was sure I could download a Google map but we could not connect to the Internet.
3. We took the wrong track!!
And so we got lost in the middle of nowhere!. After driving around for about 3 hours, we managed to find our way back to Neo Chorio and from there to Droushia. But since every cloud has a silver lining, we had the chance to explore the whole area of Akamas and discover its beauties. We were impressed by the beauty of the landscape and the diversity of its fauna and flora.

Had an amazing day exploring the Akamas peninsula on a jeep safari tour. Our guide was brilliantly informed and helpful. We saw Aphrodite's baths, Lara Bay turtle conservation, several gorges, and abandoned Turkish village, two beautiful beaches, hundreds of wild goats, ornate churches and chapels, as well as breathtaking views all the way!

Paid €250 for 2 adults 2 children and was worth every cent! Our driver Andreas picked us up in the jeep from our hotel at 8:30am and we drove quite some way before meeting up with the other jeeps at the top of a cliff. Amazing views into the crystal clear water and the seal caves from there. Next stop was a banana plantation, where we were able to walk around and pick our own ripe bananas to eat, really cool. We then drove to the Akamas Gorge, which was such a beautiful walk over stones, rocks and through streams. Most of it is in the shade as well which is good when the weather is hot! That itself takes about an hour to get in and out. We then had a stop off at the little hut selling the freshest orange juice you've ever tasted, along with other snacks. Onto Lara Bay from there, we were given some info about the turtle conservation, although there weren't any turtles to see at this time of year, apparently June is the best time to see them. The beach is lovely, has a long trek down to get to it, the water felt very warm and it was quiet there. We then were taken higher up the mountainside, where it got really off-road and bumpy! The views are amazing, and Andreas kept pointing out all the different fruit trees, picked us fresh almonds and flowers. A huge herd of goats came out of nowhere and took ages to pass! We carried on driving until we reached Latchi, where we had a nice buffet lunch in a restaurant and an hour to walk around the harbour. Afterwards, we were taken to the Baths of Aphrodite, it is very pretty but quite small, you literally just take a look then leave. Last stop was at a winery where we drank the loveliest sweet wine. By this time it was around 4pm and we were taken back to the hotel, arriving at 5pm. It's a long day out and I was a little worried about taking the kids (8 and 5) but they enjoyed it as much as we did! Take bottles of water, snacks, hats and sun cream and you're sorted! Was the best trip we had on our holiday and Andreas is fantastic 👍

The jeep Safari was an excellent and enjoyable trip, our ten your old loved the off road driving and on Lara Turtle beach we even managed to see a baby turtle going into the sea! The one thing I would recommend would be to bring plenty of drinking water as there was quite a lot of walking involved!!!

it was great to feel like asking "Sorry to disturb..." when driving into this peninsula! We were driving a small car (but a 4x4 car would be better!!) and it was the first time I felt like nature was overwhelming and I was entering a private space, unspoilt area where human presence in very close to zero...be careful to be back before it gets dark as you won't find street lamps along the dusty roads and the dark will be complete! Spectacular view, a full immersion in nature, see and beaches! I hope it will stay like that forever!
