Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A great experience in a very friendly and informal setting. We booked online, which was very efficient - it now costs £20 per person for a guided tasting (allow 90 mins) and includes a guide taking you through the history of gin and Shetland Reel, a look at the still and tasting pretty much all of their gins (currently 8) - really good value and Eve our guide looked after us very well. If you’re driving look out for signs that say ‘Saxa Vord’, the Shetland Reel logo isn’t on the outside (a large warehouse on your right if coming from the south) and we drove past and had to go back. Would highly recommend, especially if you like gin! (It also isn’t currently available outside the UK, making it extra special)

We actually did not visit Shetland , but were staying in a holiday lodge in Grantown-On -Spey and the owners recommended a gin tasting session from Shetland Reel. as they have an office in the town It was a very professional talk all about how Shetland Reel was set up , the gin making process and talking about the various gins they make. As part of the session we were allowed to taste 4 different gins and find out about why they all taste different and things like the best tonics to have with them . The gin is great tasting , in beautiful bottle that would look great on any shelf and most people bought a bottle or two to take home. If this is on offer near to you highly recommend.

Was a birthday treat by from my husband, amazing tour, getting to find out how the gin was made, also the history of it was fantastic. Tasting the different types of gin was really fantastic, even got a small whiskey as my husband is a whisky drinker and not a gin drinker was even better as the distillery was built where my house used to be, so was really nice to be home again. They were all so nice thank you

This is an excellent tour. You need to book but it is well worth the visit. You sample a generous number of different gins and have an extremely informative talk about the history of the distillery and how the gins are made. Strongly recommend.

This was more a visit for friends than for me... friends who are gin lovers! The service was very good and I was able to get some bottles that weren't on their website.

We popped into the distillery to buy some gin which was great, until I discovered while in Lerwick that the Wine shop there sells the products for considerably less money - feel totally ripped off by the distillery prices !!!

One of our favourite tipples! We had an interesting visit here where we had the opportunity to taste the Gins on offer, including their latest but unfortunately not available to purchase at present. The gentleman in charge was able to tell us about the Gins and also answer questions raised. We obviously came away with some Gin for ourselves and friends. We enjoyed our experience.

Well worth making the effort. Need to book the tour in advance, with choice of 3 per week at 12.00am. Very nice visitor room and were able to sample 5 of the different gins being produced. The actual still was surprisingly small. but tour included the bottling and labelling line together with the ingredients and the store rooms. Interesting to hear about how the operated started and plans for the future.
