This new museum is a must-see if you are in or near Argyll. The layout, exhibits, information boards and staff are all of a very high standard. I've been visiting Argyll for over 30 years and learned a lot that I didn't know.

The Kilmartin museum is a must if you are in the area. The museum is relatively new and its strength is the multi media approach to presentation and learning. The building is well designed offering a walk through the presentation areas and an insight into bronze age artefacts and the history of the Kilmartin area. The museum links to amazing walks to sights that offer access to cairns, standing stones and burial sights. We learned so much from our visit and enjoyed our walk through the local countryside immensely.

We were recommended this newly renovated museum by a friend and had a fantastic time - duration 2 hours incl. Standing Stones further down the road. Museum is not enormous but plenty to read and absorb and a few great highlights. From Reception/Pay desk, the museum goes in chronological starting from 21st Century, working backwards. Good idea as this leaves the 4,000 year old highlights to the end. Felt the darkened cinema room could have been used more effectively as a film room to learn more about the excavations rather than the mythology experience. Cafe / Bistro was superb with great range of good quality food with friendly staff. Short drive or walk down the Glen to the standing stones and cairns. A really great way to spend a morning or afternoon. Highly recommended

So glad this is now fully open; the layout is brilliant and the way they tell the story of the glen is engaging with many artefacts on show. The shop is nowhere near as good as the old one however and the cafe- closed Mondays and Tuesdays not a patch on the one that was run by the Centre; ages to be served, appalling loud music, so forced to sit outside ( fine by me as it was dry) . I had 2 flat whites, neither of which bore any resemblance to the name. Bring your own!

I visited the Stones on the way to the Museum. The Museum was really informative and well displayed. Whilst I was there I saw the Carbon Legacy exhibition by the local artist Lizzie Rose. What a stroke of luck that Lizzie was there at the time and was generous with her time in explaining to me what the Exhibition was all about and how she was swapping the Oak Trees around before planting them in the Autumn. You should stop here it well worth it, such an interesting place full of history.

A museum that's been on my bucket list for a while and it really does live up to its billing. Charting the human history of an incredible glen dating back over 5000 years, this is a venue that really does bring the past to life. It's the birthplace of Scotland and there are just so many ancient landmarks within easy walking distance that you'll barely scratch the surface. From neolithic times up to the kingdom of Dalriada, you'll come away from here having learnt a hell of a lot!

Some beautiful artifacts and excellent interpretation make this a perfect introduction to the delights of Kilmartin Glen. The museum’s guidebook to the area, “Inntge Footsteps of Kings” is also well worth reading. You can buy it at the museum or online from their website, though the online price is higher as they need to pay for postage. Don’t bother with the cafe. It’s nothing special.

We were really impressed with Kilmartin Museum. My wife is a historian and loves museums, personally I’m not big on museums but we both really enjoyed our visit here. The whole place is so well thought out. They use a wide range of methods from traditional items and plaques of information, to plenty of interactive practical experiences and some great quality AV technology. There really is something for everyone. My wife was particularly struck by how sensitively it handled difficult topics/artefacts. Shows so much care. Also the staff clearly love the place and know their history. Great to experience such genuine passion.

A fascinating small museum. Exhibits are well presented, giving a good understanding of the timeliness of the history of the Glen since the Stoneage. They provide both exits and questionnaires to encourage the engagement of children, who obvious.y interested in their experience. A volunteer provide an interesting introduction to the museum and the story of the exhibits. Our only negative would be the video recreation of an imagined ceremony, which added little. There is also an excellent cafe.

Absolutely fabulous place! Modern, welcoming and very informative! Everything is set out so well. Interesting layouts and lots to see! Welcoming informative staff! Superb cafe that has an amazing view. Great choice of reasonably priced food and drinks served. Great immaculately clean toilet facilities! Don’t drive past! It’s so worth a visit!
