About
Capo Vaticano, the last strip of land before the Straits of Messina, thrusts dramatically from the sea, its white rocks battered and eroded by centuries of breakers that have taught sailors to respect and fear this fascinating, almost mysterious place. Capo Vaticano its majestically enthroned in a turquoise sea, as it dominates the archipelago of the Aeolian Islands to the north-west, the Gulf of to the north-east, to the south-west the Gulf of Gioia Tauro and, beyond, the Straits of Messina culminating in Mount Etna. This part of Calabria, overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea, contains the ancient fascination of a thousand years of history. The sea that caresses the snow-white beaches and the wildness of the rocks make visitors lose their sense of time, as it conceals beneath its waves the secrets of ancient shipwrecks, the relics of which have frequently been discovered. Life in the area is dominated by fishing; its waters are visited by the great swordfish, tuna, blue sharks etc.

The rugged beauty of the mountains and the blue seas and beaches make this a must see if in Tropea. Take one of the many cruises that are available for the best views

Visited the promontory by car. The Navy occupies the nose, understandably so. There is a patway ans an esplanade allowing for belvedere vistas. The rock outcrops set a context that renders the 12 Apostles in Victoria, Australia in puerile competition. An interesting picture of the overworked utilised commercially vicinity and the "wilderness|" of the rocks and the ubiquitous figues de barbarie (prickly pears) which characterise Sicily and you do not get as mant anywhere in the Mediterranean.

It’s a beautiful area to rest and relax after touring for 3 weeks. Stayed by the Santa Maria beach and went to Tropea and Pizzo.

The water is wonderful ,clear, spectacular. The beaches are too crowded and the places near the sea is destroyed by camping ,residence, houses and so on.This is the way to destroy a wonderful place. The prices are to high,Two sandwiches two small bears 2 caffe at 32 euro in many places. We stay there 13 days and went also to Nicotera ,beach 3 km long with a beautiful pine forest ,few people,2 sandwiches two small bears 2 caffe 17 euro.I am italian and I think that we are able to destroy the wonderful places for three months of summer season instead to work 6 months all the year long.

Breath taking views, spectacular beaches, crystal clear water. At times it's so calm it looks like your at a lagoon. Must visits, when in area, for Breath taking views, go to Punto Faro and Belvedere. Also take a short drive to Tropea another breath taking town on the water.

Nice small place in more rural Italy. Good food. Red onions are served in several ways. Nice but crowded beaches. English not spoken here.

We drove to the viewing point above the resort of Capo Vaticano, called Belvedere di Capo Vaticano. The road was a bit narrow, but we managed to get there by bus. The views of the beaches and clear water below are simply spectacular. Unfortunately, the visibility was not the best, so we could not see further than Stromboli. When the air is clear, many more islands are visible.

Maybe we were too late (sunset) but the view did not make a spectacular impression on us. Yes, it was nice but from the descriptions we expected bit more.
