Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Great views can be seen from this bright orange lighthouse on the westernmost part of the volcanic Snæfelsnes Peninsula. While it is only 6 metres tall the lighthouse really stands out (and had recently been painted when we visited so it literally was glowing). The contrast of the bright orange lighthouse is quite something against the black volcanic rock. Saw plenty of birdlife on the cliffs below even if it felt like we may get blown over the barriers to join them. It may not be the best road to drive on but we managed with our standard car. Even got to see an Artic fox on our way back to the main road.

The lighthouse is about 3 kilometers past Skarsdvik beach but the road is not paved once you pass the beach. You might not need a 4 wheel drive, but the increased clearance would be very helpful since the road is filled with undulations, bumps, and potholes as well as being quite narrow most of its length. The good thing about this is you might get lucky and have the entire site to yourself like we did!
Once you arrive there is a small parking lot and paths leading down to the lighthouse and a lookout deck at the top of the cliffs. It is a stunning place that feels like the end of the world! A worthwhile and unique place to visit

There are 2 lighthouses in this area that you can see on the same drive. This is slow travel. The roads are rough (need a 4 wheel drive). The other lighthouse is Ondverdarnes Lighthouse. The closer you get to Svortuloft Lighthouse the rougher the road becomes. The drive to both lighthouses is approx 13-14km and took us over an hour. We didn't get out at one lighthouse and only quick pictures at the other. We saw only a couple of cars the whole time. This is in the national park, from 574 go west on 579 (aka Ondverdarnesvegur and vegur=road).

This is a really pretty orange lighthouse. However the road near the lighthouse is terrible. Reviews said little bumpy but that is an understatement. Would be fine with 4x4. I do not get nervous driving but I did not want to go any further. We made it to park but was stressful. I would not take a regular car on this road.

If you have a 4wd, then take the road to the lighthouse. It isn't just the lighthouse you are seeing, but the entire area around it.
Once upon a time there was a village or something here, and the ruins are still there, not far from the brilliantly orange lighthouse. You can meander along the stone ruins, or lie in the soft peat. We hiked in the vicinity for nearly an hour. It was very peaceful and quiet--only one other car came and went.

Just a short drive south from Skardsvik, its Ondverdarnes and its gorgeous orange lighthouse. There are many waterfalls in Iceland and so are the lighthouses. This is one of the outstanding lighthouse. Easy to walk to because of the wood decks, very flat and you won't miss it because of the color contrast to the lava black rock. This is a great photo taking spot, especially very quiet, not too many people around and scenery is beautiful.Parking is easy.

This bright orange lighthouse is perched, isolated atop black volcanic cliffs. Turn off the main highway onto 579, signed to Skardsvik. The last 3 kilometres are a bit rough but a car can make it if you go slowly. There is a viewing platform or you can carefully walk the cliff tops for views of of sea birds also. Gulls, Guillemots, razorbills and possibly puffin abound

The road to get here is a bit less maintained and parking is quite limited once you get to the end. However, worth a visit while doing the loop around the peninsula. Great opportunity to birdwatch as well.

Yep. It’s a lighthouse. Road was gravel and bumpy and narrow. Would not go back. There are some nice rock formations just off the cliff.
