    Golf experience a real joy
I've played this course on previous trips to Tobago and have always enjoyed the challenging layout, but the condition sometimes left something to be desired. There's clearly been significant investment and a lot of hard work on the course and it has really paid off. The greens were smooth (moderate to fast) and receptive to well-struck approaches. The tees and fairways were in great condition and the rough was kept to a height that was hard enough to play from to be best avoided, but not so long that it was hard to find balls. The overall experience compared favourably with courses played in Spain, Portugal, South Africa and could certainly help put Tobago on the map as a golfing destination. (If only something could be done to restore the Mt Irvine course, then Tobago would become a premium golf holiday location.) The customer service was also excellent - Tamara gave us a warm welcome and had made sure that fully-charged carts were right outside the Pro Shop waiting for us.

    5 great rounds of golf
We played this course five times over a two week period which is testament to the fact that we really enjoyed it. The course is well maintained with well mown fairways and true greens. It is a challenging course but it is not insurmountable for the average golfer. The staff were all very friendly and the beer in the club house was very cold.

We stayed in house #56. The ocean view was spectacular! We contacted our house host to meet us at the security gate, we waited for 20 minutes for him to arrive. The cleaning people were still here when we arrived. No towels but hand were in the dryer. 2 out of 3 ac units not working, no batteries in remotes, light bulbs missing from fixtures, the ceiling fans makes a lot of noise when on, gas tanks were empty so we couldn’t use the stove, pool filthy and white, shower water goes from scorching hot to freezing cold without touching the handle, oven handle has a huge hole in it, the only tv upstairs doesn’t work they said because of direct tv service lol, ants on balcony we had to spray down with hose, doors don’t open and close properly, we called Ali the host, he stated expected this because you’re on an island! We stayed 4 days for $8,800 TT! We booked it for my 50th birthday. Definitely wouldn’t stay here or recommend anyone to stay here for this!

Very disappointed. Disgusting. We paid 2000 per night and had to bathe in a hose outside. The bathrooms were smelling like a sewer. The tv was not working. Place didn’t look clean. The whole house needed some serious repairs. I would advise anyone against going there. We never met anyone to welcome us, neither when we were leaving. The worst is the residents of Tobago. Seems they hate trinis…. I won’t be going back there anytime soon. I would rather spend my money elsewhere than in Tobago. Ppl there are not nice at all and not just some. All of them!!!

Having played here previously I was pleased to hear that the course was under new management. There are signs everywhere that time, money and man power is being invested into the club.

The green keepers are constantly working on the course to improve it and it's working. The course is the best I have seen so far and if it keeps going then it will be a true jewel on Tobago!

I stayed there 5 nights starting February 14 in Villa 29A. Fantastic place. Very relaxing, great view from the patio where I used to sit and enjoy my early tea in quietness right on the course.
Great location, right between Crown Point and Scarborough, excellent conditions, gated community, very clean grounds, manicured landscaping and excellent greens. I got a very good deal, please contact me if you need contact info.

Returning this year we immediately noticed a great improvement in the condition of this course which has been brought about by the new superintendent and his staff and a large capital investment in machinery. The fairways are now manicured, the second cut/roughs are close cropped and playable throughout and whilst much needs to be done to the greens there is a noticeable improvement in their state since last year and there is a clearly visible program to return them to their original condition. With all the new machinery available, we foresee a great course to play next year. Can't wait!
Keep up the good work, Mr. Fergie and thank your staff for making our stay and play so enjoyable

My rating is a one because zero was not an option. We rented a building, was sent pictures and paid $8800 but when we arrived was given a different house. The air conditioning wasn't working, the bathroom by the pool door handle wouldn't work which meant getting stuck in the bathroom until someone from outside opened the door, battery in the remote were dead, TV in the master bedroom had the wrong remote and isnt working, not enough towels (3 towels and 4 hand towels were left for 8 guests) and the pool was dirty. Every time we called the owner, he was not empathetic
of the situation instead his reaction for our inconvenience him. He sent someone to fix the air condition and to drop off additional towels. He said I have 2 TVs downstairs so don't worry about the one upstairs. This trip was an embarrassing for me and my family. I travel all over the world and this was by far the worst. The house at the villa was a gift for my family to celebrate my brother's 50th birthday. We were born in Trinidad but it's our first time in Tobago and what a disappointment.

We stayed at the Tobago Plantations Condo 17B for the month of January for a quiet, relaxing vacation in the Caribbean sun ($500 TT/night). Tobago Plantations is a huge complex (it occupys most of the SE tip of the island) that consists of houses, the condo complex, the Magdalena Golf & Beach Resort, a full golf course and large tracts of undeveloped land left as fields, wooded areas and a mangrove swamp.

We stayed in the condo complex, 3 clusters of 3-story buildings (each with 3-6 units) each arrayed around a pool. Our condo, a penthouse on the top floor of one of the smaller buildings, was accesed up a stairway, through a locked door and up another interior stairway to the unit. Entry was through the kitchen with a door onto the back deck to the left and another into the living area to the right. The latter was a large, airy bedroom with a sitting area fronted by french doors onto a 2nd deck overlooking the pool & golf course. It was furnished with a double bed, 2 stuffed chairs, a wood table & 3 chairs, a low, narrow cabinet topped by a flat-screen TV, & a closet with shelves, hangers & space for suitcases (no in-room safe). An overhead fan hung from the peaked, open-joist roof, and there was a cross breeze from the 2 patio doors & windows; for hot afternoons, there was also an AC. The deck had only a lounger (we took one of the chairs out) – Wendy told us the previous furniture had rotted out and that delivery of the new furniture was on island time.

The bathroom & kitchen were moderate in size. The former was tiled, with a large shower and a vanity with sufficient counter space. The latter was equipped with cutlery, flatware and pots & pans (bring your own condiments). The back deck had a bit of a view of the ocean beyond the golf course but was otherwise unilitarian. Overall, imagine the condo as an airfy, comfortable hotel room with an attached kitchen. The “penthouse” term referred to the location at the top of the building rather than a sense of luxury – it was comfortable but it did show its age, with older appliances in the kitchen, stained counter tops, etc.

The pools were well maintained and rarely used – the complex seemed to be patronized by a few longer-term snowbirds and the occasional weekend visitor from Trinidad. There was plenty of security, with guard kiosks at the main and back entrances of the complex and at the entrance to the condo complex and a lot of maintenance people around during the day. You will need a car here (although there are day rentals that can be arranged at the resort) – the nearest towns of Crown Point and Scarborough are a 10-15 min drive, and none of the supermarkets or good restaurants are within walking distance. You can eat at the resort – their buffet changes daily, but it was overly expensive at $255 TT per person, plus tax, tip and drinks – so we generally cooked our own. If you plan to do the same, the Scarborough market on Fri-Sat had nice selections of produce and meats – otherwise, try the grocery stores or road-side stands (there is a good fish market just down Milford Rd toward Scarborough).

Overall, we found the TP condos to be the best part of the complex. Our condo provided a comfortable, pleasant place to spend a laid-back, relaxing holiday. While not luxurious, it was meticulously maintained as were the grounds and pool – great value for the price, especially when you consider what you would be paying in other parts of the Caribbean. The resort complex in general, though, while reasonably well maintained, showed signs of over-optimism in the early stages of development (areas intended for housing that have rusted out; a the mangrove board-walk, once complete with electricity, now with rotted boards, rusted dangling wires and pipes) as well as the 4-year closure of the resort until 2011. I recommend the condos for this type of trip, the rest of the complex lesser so.

A beautiful hotel in need of some TLC but the warm welcome and attention of ALL the staff make it truly a jewel in the crown of the caribbean. Playing golf here is like walking round a nature reserve. Thanks to Burt and Kevin the grounds men who were happy to play golf with us - we will be back !!

This is an 18 hole course that’s both beautiful and challenging. When we played, no one else was playing. Buggies come at no additional cost.

Service is very basic. We were given a key to a buggy and a score card and left to our own devices. We had to clean the buggy of other’s drink bottles and load our own gear. When it rained we had to find towels to wipe the water off the buggy seats before loading our clubs onto the buggy. No water or ice is provided but water is available to buy.

Sadly it has lots of potential but the course is very badly maintained. The bunkers are full of rocks and covered with weeds. There are few rakes across the whole course and when we did see a rake in a bunker it was covered with weeds.

One windy day, the flags had been blown off the greens, making them almost impossible to see from a distance. No one had checked the course when it opened to put them back on.

There are small crocodiles called cayman in the water, so think twice about retrieving your ball if they fall in the water - although I’m told they rarely attack people unless they’re guarding their young.

The golf house restaurant is not air conditioned and looked empty. It’s closed every Tuesday. We normally have a few drinks and a meal after we play but we’re not inspired to stop there - which is a shame as it’s a missed opportunity for both players and the club.

Despite the cost being reasonable, this course is so overgrown that I would not recommend this as a great course to play.

I booked a day pass to use the pool while my husband played golf. He had breakfast included so I decided to join him. It was £20!!! Not even particularly nice.
There is tons of seaweed on the beach.
The pool bar was closed so I had to get very cross to get my 'free' drinks.
I wouldn't recommend this hotel.
