I was in dire need of a few days rest and I wanted to go to McGregor as I love the peacefulness of it and quiet. I was thinking to book at Temenos retreat but they were fully booked. My husband remembered that Tanager has accommodation so I enquired and they had some availability for the cottages close to the house for me to choose from. I ended up staying close to the house but was in no way interfered with or bothered in any way. I was wanting quiet and sleep and it was the perfect place for that. On the little stoop I was able to set up my yoga mat when I felt like stretching, and the little kitchen was just perfect to make my own meals in. I love the mosquito net around the bed-made me feel like a princess and kept any mosquitos away :)
I loved the walk on the property and I felt safe as a single woman staying on my own. Very easy to get in and out of town from this place. Great location and feel to it. Wonderful hosts too! Thank you so much. I will be back again and will send others your way for sure from Cape Town. All the best!

Interesting little winery on the way out of McGregor. It has a Grappa Distillery attached to the winery. worth a visit for something different :)

We've been coming here consistently and I'm sure nothing will change. We always stay here at least once a year and all my previous reviews have been about the accommodation, which I might add is always top notch and you simply don't get this value for money, high quality places, any more. This review is going to be about their wines and goodies on offer. It's a small boutique winery which has that amazing country friendliness and like the top Western Cape restaurant down the road (Karoux), as awarded by Eat Out magazine, everything is beautifully casual, relaxed and nobody is trying to prove a point. It is a wonderful way to experience their amazing wines, grappa and limited made in the area, farm deli treats. If you're a guest of the farm, there is an amazing pool area and wonderful high standards are maintained for guests by the incredibly kind as well as rational hosts.

From the other reviews here it sounds like the hosts are great, and that might be because they did not have children to stay. We popped in to the winery on a weekend away with friends, and we had six children aged 5-8 between us three couples. The hosts were most certainly not very friendly, and after the kids ran around the garden a bit (and made a bit of noise as kids do, nothing unacceptable) we were actually asked in no uncertain terms to leave, immediately (after purchasing a few bottles first, of course). We even had to listen to the wife shout at the husband to get rid of us. The entire experience was very unpleasant, and I would not recommend that you visit there if you have small children. It is certainly not child friendly, be warned. (We had a much friendlier reception and visit at the McGregor Winery up the road, where the very same children were welcomed and not seen as a problem at all.)

These visitors (3 couples, with 6 children) came to a wine-tasting only and were not guests staying with us in our accommodation. The children soon started exploring the farm and jumped into the pool. As we had guests staying in a cottage next to the pool and as the use of our pool is exclusive to our guests we asked the parents to please take their children out of the pool and bring them back to the tasting area. The parents were reluctant to do so as they didn't want to spoil the fun for their children. As hosts of the guests staying with us in our accommodation we felt we had to consider their interests first.

The quaint village of McGregor is reason enough to visit this part of the world, but we had the good fortune to stay at Tanagra wine farm in a beautiful cottage far away from other accommodation. The cottage is beautifully minimalistic, yet comfortable and stylish. We were planning to explore the area but could barely tear ourselves away from the stoep. To sit there with a cup of coffee and watch the sun rise over the mountain, or with a glass of wine and watch the sun set was pure bliss.
We had some lovely walks as well, on the farm itself where there are a couple of dams and an interesting plant trail, and also on the Vrolijkheid Nature Reserve, which adjoins the farm.
This is just a fantastic place to enjoy solitude and wide open spaces. Do not miss the very interesting wine and grappa tasting, presented by owner Anette.

We are so glad we made a special effort to visit this boutique wine farm. Initially I had spoken to Anette on the phone about accommodation but they were fully booked, but she suggested we visit their wine farm while staying in McGregor. It was well worth it. Glenda and I agreed that Anette is the friendliest German we have ever met :) and their wines are top class too! And that being said by 2 Constantia wine drinkers. We even went on to taste the Grappa which was enlightening as we are not Grappa drinkers. The passion these people put into their work is evident. We left with a Kombi load of wine. Happy days!

So everything is true. You arrive and a big wonderfully friendly dog greats you at the entrance to the tasting room. Then you pass the magnificent wild fig tree that appears on the logo. Enter the office/tasting room, the inner sanctuary of Robert and Anette Rosenbach’s distillery and winery. Robert, kind and attentive, tells the story of their offerings and it is good. From the Colombard to the Carah; the Marc (grappa) to eau de vie and orange liqueur... absolutely enjoyable and good. This is a gem of a place that you must visit in McGregor district.
