I was heading to Oslo from Stockholm and noticed I sign from the castle. Unfortunately it was not open I had cafe from a little kiosk and walk around the place. I really recommend this stop even as a park tour!

Correct. No cost to tour the gardens etc. However, the tour inside is worth the money and effort. Spectacular place, well preserved.
