- Anne B1 contributionThe best horse riding experience on HydraWe had a wonderful experience with Harriet and her beautiful horses on Hydra. We are a family of 5 with three children aged 16,14 and 11. Our ride through the town and along the coast was stunning. Harriet stopped at some key points and took photos of us all and sent them through to us after the ride so that we didn’t have to worry about trying to juggle phones/cameras on the horses. Harriet was also wonderful at making the kids feel comfortable as our children had no riding experience and were a bit nervous. Harriet was so lovely and friendly and obviously cared for her horses like family. Harriet even went out of her way to help us find last minute accommodation on the island for which we are eternally grateful after our return ferry was unexpectedly cancelled (a rare occurrence so don’t worry). We hope to return and ride with Harriet again in the future. I highly recommend Harriet’s Hydra Horses if you want the best horse riding experience on Hydra.Visited September 2023Travelled with familyWritten 19 October 2023
- tonys2106Dungarvan, Ireland143 contributionsGeorge is also a star at HarrietsI phoned Harriet a week ago to see if she was still doing her outings out of the season. She told me she was actually having a few days break but would arrange for George to take us the following day. She explained that George didn't speak perfect English but was sure we would enjoy the experience as he was a lovely guy. We booked a one and a half hour trip for the four of us, at a cost of €168 in total. None of us have much experience with horses, but we had a fantastic and safe time. George is a total character who didn't stop making us laugh. I can understand why Harriet has such good ratings, with help like George and also such beautiful horses. Thank you very much, we appreciate the tour (during your break) and also the great photos from the top of the hills that George kindly took for us.Visited November 2023Travelled with familyWritten 27 November 2023
- Sushma S1 contributionHydra horsey heavenIt was the most wonderful thing to do! Harriet was a fantastic and attentive guide, teaching us riding tips and making sure we were all ok. Her horses were so sweet and very chilled, they clearly adore her. The trek was very enjoyable and it was easy to handle even for novices. We were rewarded with views from the mountains were absolutely spellbinding. Highly recommended thank you Harriet XVisited May 2024Travelled soloWritten 20 May 2024

- Pattilee CToukley, Australia36 contributionsA horses eye view of everyday life on HydraHarriett such a lovely young lady and well behaved horses. The ride to Kamini and back was very pretty. This was a birthday present for my husband who turned 75 on the day. He was very nervous but she made it fun and even got her husband Vasilly to meet us at the end to help him off. A good way to see the back streets and everyday life. Even when the horses stop to eat the fruit at the fruit shop on the way. Harriet's Hydra Horses is a great riding school for novice and experienced riders alike. We booked a morning excursion up to one of the monasteries. We were welcomed by Harriet in person, she is very friendly and professional, where she talked us through the ride, provided our riding equipment and carefully checked that everything was adjusted and fitted properly regards the safety equipment and saddles etc. All equipment is hygienic and new hair nets were provided for use inside the riding hats.
The ride was most enjoyable lasting around two and a half hours, with a half hour stop at the monastery to enjoy some refreshments, enjoy the breath-taking views, take photos and rest in the shade. Our guide also kindly made regular stops for photos at scenic points.
I would definitely recommend this experience to everyone who would like to enjoy some riding while visiting Hydra.

Hydra being a car-less island, one way of honouring its identity while offering a unique experience is discovering part of the island on horseback. We booked Harriet's experience (trek 5) plenty ahead of time via email and Harriet was very responsive, making it easy to determine a day and time that would work for us. While my partner has done a fair amount of horseback riding, I am a novice, and we both loved the experience. The horses are calm and reliable, and Harriet is a wonderful guide, which made us feel comfortable and confident at all times. She knows her horses extremely well and also picks up quickly on how we handle them, meaning she always gave us some pertinent cues (posture, positioning of feet, etc.). She also took plenty of photos of us during the ride, which led us to one of the monasteries in the hills of the island. Given the heat, we would never have done this hike on foot, so beyond the horseback riding experience itself, it also gave us some unique vistas of the island. And finally, Harriet is also a wonderful person to spend a few hours with, making this a gem of an activity while on Hydra!

This has been our third time visiting Hydra and we always book one of Harriet’s horse rides. It’s a great way to see the island and the trek that leads to the four seasons hotel means you can have breakfast and stop at the beach for the day.
We highly recommend - Harriet is very knowledgeable and puts you at ease if you are new to horse riding.

Harriet is a very professional and experienced guide and rider who loves her horses and takes good care of them. Comfortable saddles, good caps. She offers different tours on the island and puts safety at the first place. We did a 3 hour tour to a monestary, which was a great experience! If you want to ride a horse on Hydra, book tour trip with her!

Harriet is awesome, and she provided an amazing experience for our family. She was quick to respond and took care of us during our riding adventure through Hydra. We absolutely loved our hour-long trek with Harriet. My partner was a total beginner and Harriet and her trustworthy horses completely put him at ease. She is so knowledgable and we felt very safe and well looked after. It’s a wonderful way to see the beautiful island, couldn’t recommend it highly enough.

I’ve rode horses for years, and it was so cool to see them used like they are on the island. They are used for transportation and hauling stuff around. When I saw there was the opportunity to swim with the horses in the sea I had to take it! The horses were very well behaved. It was an incredible time from going up and down narrow steps, to cantering along the path by the ocean on the way back, and, of course, swimming in the sea with them!

This was the highlight of our visit to Hydra. Harriet was very responsive and accommodating. As we were novice riders, Harriet took the time to explain the instructions and tips on handling the gentle creatures. You could tell they are well cared for and loved! The ride through the town was relaxing while taking in breathtaking views from the trail! Definitely recommend this for a fun and relaxing family activity while on Hydra. Thank you Harriet, Aries, Dennis and Roully!

I took a group out with Harriet yesterday, there were 8 of us. One has never ridden a horse before and was petrified, another 2 had had traumatic experiences on horses. Her calm charming manner, patience with those who had fear was the best I've ever seen. She was absolutely incredible and the horses are fabulous. Its a great way to explore this hilly town. Highly recommend!

Hello, I am sorry I don't have rooms! Just horses for riding! So once you are here I could take you for a ride :-)
Most of the hotels/ pensions here on hydra do provide air conditioning to help with your question.
Take care,

How far in advance do we need to make a reservation for a trip to Hydra in late July? Is there any opportunity for last minute decision whether we (2 people) would like to do one of these trips?
Thanks!
Written 17 May 2015
Hello, yes I think making a reservation in advance is a good idea, because I already have lots of booking for June, July and August and if you do leave it last minute I can't guarantee I could fit you in. In the high season month I need 10 days notice.
And for getting to the island is the same, you need to book your boat tickets in advance because in high season they are fully booked too.
Hope I've helped.
