About
The Casa-Museo el Campesino is located in the geographic centre of the island in the municipality of San Bartolomé, and it is a public tribute César Manrique paid to the effort of men and women working the fields, and facing the worst conditions in order to be able to bring the land to life. Wine and food products from Lanzarote are nowadays internationally renowned thanks to the effort Manrique made when paying this tribute. The Museo del Campesino complex, is a visual and emotional display, that pays special attention to the wit, courage, bravery of local farmers. It consists of a series of buildings that look like traditional homes, with white walls and green wood, combining the most characteristic elements of the different areas of the island. The Museo is guarded by the majestic Monumento a la Fecundidad: a fifteen-metre tall sculpture created by Manrique using boat water tanks, and iron and cement objects assembled. A magnificent symbol of avant-garde art that became an iconogra

Impressive monument designed by Cesar Manrique stands tall as you approach this site. Ample parking. Old farming implements and camel & mule carrying boxes on display outside.
Handicraft stalls not all open on Sunday. Don’t miss the underground banqueting suite. A cafe is on site. When we visited there was a local dance and musician troupe performing.
Free to enter, worth a look.

We stopped here to take a photo of the Monument Fecundidad and found this amazing museum and artisan crafts building. It is a lovely place to wander around and sells unusual crafts and gifts made locally. There is an enormous restaurant underground as well as above. Nicely landscaped, free and with good parking. Well worth a visit.

Located in the municipality of San Bartolomé is the Casa Museo del Campesino, one of the many attractions on the island from artist César Manrique.
This location is a tribute to farmers who work the land in challenging conditions, and features some replica houses in white and green, a small lava tube and an underground restaurant.
Outside the museum is the Fertility Monument which you can explore by climbing a few stairs. We stopped here as part of a cruise ship excursion and it was an interesting way to spend an hour.

Casa Museo del Campesino is a museum located on land, between San Bartolomé and Mozaga, in the center of Lanzarote Island. It and the outer sculpture (the fecundity) were designed by Cesar Manrique, the most known artist of the island. In the museum, you can see the traditional life as a farmer in the island. Here you can see some objects used and there is a miniature town, where you can buy souvenirs and local craft objects (too tourist). Also, there si a bar/restaurant, where you can eat local food. In fact, I arrived a bit late and only could walk few minutes in the museum and drink something in the bar. It is ok.

The whole place is serene and beautifully kept. The waiter in the tapas area was so friendly, we talked through the tapas range and he then told us all about the gofio production and how he eats it at home. The grounds are immaculate. The large conference area at the bottom of the stairs was beautifully laid for a large dinner that evening. Sadly though the artisan, what there were appeared sullen and totally ignored us. One elderly lady scowled and played with her phone. Another younger woman just carried on unpacking a box and made a point of ignoring us. Such a shame.

Somewhat disappointing I fear. The cafe was very good but the rest of it didn't do justice to Lanzarotes heroic and complex farming history. I feel unjust in saying this when the visit is free of charge, but it has unfulfilled potential.

We were touring some of the Cesar Manrique attractions and stopped for a look around this place. We enjoyed our visit and found the place an interesting insight into the life of the farming community of bygone Lanzarote.
The gardens were stunning and the exhibits interesting. Well worth a visit.

The most famous and traditional job that Cesar Manrique admired (as I do) was farming, agriculture. Lanzarote's farmers were very hard at work, but, at the same time, very honest and kind people. It is a worthing to visit the place, like Cesar Manrique's house and museums.

Casa Museo Del Campesino is worth stopping for. The centre is beautifully laid out and spotlessly tidy. Local crafts are displayed and you are able to sample some of the food. Entrance is free and there is plenty of parking. The staff were keen to answer any questions about the history of the centre and the island as a whole.

We used to come to this place every year. We had eaten very well there until this year. The fish was dry like stale bread. The tasteless gofio. Christian stuff. I will not come back because we see that French tourists are taking a back seat
