    Much much improved
I had been critical of the course when I played last October, however a lot has changed since then! The course and greens were very good, tees ok too. They had also done a lot of work on the cart paths and course furniture and the surroundings were in much better condition. Bridge at 11/12 still not repaired. The big issue is the fire that destroyed the clubhouse. The site has been cleared and a portacabin is in place to book in etc. I’m told a marquee is going up that will be a bar etc while the new clubhouse is built. A devastating event for SanLorenzo but a new beginning too.

Battered and bruised, but still a hell of a course
The course is visually stunning, it is an excellent layout. Yes some of the buggy paths are battered, small areas of some of the greens are also tired. One or two of the fairways are slightly ropey. The clubhouse situation is crap and so are the buggies. But, IMO it’s more of a test than any of the three at QDL. The greens are more than playable and running mostly true, while a slick-ish. Looks as though the pins haven’t been moved for a little while. It ain’t Augusta National, but it ain’t the local council course some of these reviews would have you believe. Played it on 14th and 15th October 23.

    Be nice.
So many negative reviews about this place, presumably by people who weren't actually there. OK, the clubhouse burnt down last year, but the course is still great, and the staff are busting their bits trying to make your day enjoyable. Even a free a free packed lunch to take out on the course. Give these guys a break! S**t happens, and they're doing their best.

A lovely interesting and challenging course with great greens.
Despite losing their club house and facilities 9 months ago to a drastic fire, the staff here were really helpful and kind. Each player was given a lunch bag with fresh filled roll, choc bar, apple and water. Thank you very much San Lorenzo!
There were toilets in place and a bar with outdoor seating at tables for after round drinks. (Payments by card only).

Took a trip down memory lane…… Having played here multiple times over the past 25 years, I returned for the first time in 15 years. The design, views, surroundings & everything deserve a golfer’s admiration and respect. Sadly, the current presentation falls well below that that the course deserves. The course urgently requires investment and restoration.,Living on its reputation alone does not justify the malaise and negligence the current administration regrettably appear to be pursuing. Within less than a mile QDL have shown what investment can do to maintain standards. Of course it’s costly however, to ensure there’s a legacy, this golfer (even without his rose tinted glasses on) hopes that those within the corridors of power understand and accept their responsibilities and wake up before the reputation of such a incredible layout is simply lost to time and dilapidation. It feels a generational responsibility and I truly hope compassion to the course be given.

Shocking golf course. The fairways and greens are in terrible condition, every hole felt like a dog leg which rewards even the slightest off centre tee shot with a lost ball.
Cart paths were bordering dangerous and there is no club house! Just a portacabin whereby a can of coke is 6.50E.
To top it off, the place is infested with mosquitos and everyone in my group was bitten to death.
Greens were wooly and slow and the tee boxes are uneven. Considering the green fee (150E), the buggy hire (55E) and the prices of food and drink, avoid avoid avoid. Go to Vale Do Lobo instead, a totally different experience.

It breaks my heart to write this review, I have been playing San Lorenzo 3 times a year for 20 years. In my opinion it is the most beautiful situated golf course in the Algarve. Since JJW Hotels took it over it has deteriorated year on year. This year was the worse, greens in very poor condition, tees awful, everything needs a coat of paint, no clubhouse, €55 euros to hire Palmares old buggy’s . The cart paths are so bad you can’t drive on them. Here is a message to the owners, if you can’t look after the jewel in the crown of Algarve golf courses please please sell it to someone who can. Mr O’Brian at Quinta do Lego can show you how to present a golf course. You should be ashamed of the condition you have allowed this wonderful course to get into.

I completely echo the review by Carguy (Oct 2023). ….i too have played this course numerous times in the last 15 years and also noticed how much it is in decline.
To continue to charge full price with no clubhouse facility ( not their fault but fact !) and to charge for buggies which are not fit for purpose to be driven on horrendous cart paths is bordering on criminal.
As for the greens, please see uploaded picture…..not just one green like this but almost everyone.
I for one will not be returning.

I played San Lorenzo in 2013 and 2015. It was one of the top courses I played in Spain and Portugal - world class. I played it again this week and things have changed - for the worst! While the staff is still friendly, the course layout is unchanged, which is good, and some of the views are still great, the condition of the golf course is just simply terrible. Everything, from the tee boxes, fairways, greens and cart paths, need major investments to bring them back to average playing conditions and even more to world class standards. There were many bare spots throughout the course. The greens were uneven and also had many blotchy bare spots. The trees and shrubs were not well maintained. The cart paths were not in good condition - some in almost total disrepair and provided, at times, jarring rides. The carts themselves were in below average condition and I was informed by the staff that the regular carts were lost in clubhouse fire in June 2023. The club house, which was really nice and served good food, was burned to the ground caused by an electrical fire.

I met a couple who are local residents sitting on a bench near one of the tee boxes who used to play golf at San Lorenzo. They informed me that the course has gone down hill the last five or so years and has fallen into disrepair for the lack of investment. They as many other local golfers were not happy about the situation.

The golf staff works out of a small shed, where golfers check in, and sells drinks only.

Avoid this course until the course is restored to its original conditions. Plenty of other alternatives in the area.
