An interesting museum-cum-interpretation centre and a large open area covered with well preserved roman ruins. The mosaics are spectacular, and very well preserved. Take water with you, and wear a hat. There's very little shade. Worth a visit.

Really enjoyed a visit here. Loads to see, great mosaics, Roman baths etc. We were very lucky and had an archeological friend who showed us round, there's not a huge about of information in English. But it is interesting. Be warned, very little shelter from...More

This is definitely a "hidden gem" that shouldn't be missed if you fit it in. Very large site with lots of of things to see as well as an excellent museum.

The plateau on which the rather sizeable Roman city of Conimbriga was built has only been 17% excavated at this time. Yet the recovery and restorations are excellent for history buffs and amateur archeologists. The museum is superb, which well-planned exhibits and clear explanations of...More

Probably the most extensive and well laid out Roman town outside of Italy, Conimbriga is well worth the visit two miles south of Coimbra. Not only several baths that give you a good idea of the lay out of 2nd C roman baths, but also...More

This exceeded my expectations in all respects. The care of the preservation - I especially enjoyed being able to "play" the fountains - the lovely mosaics, the clear paths. On our day we had an elementary and a secondary school touring through so it was...More

This stop was part of our Globus tour of Portugal. We had no idea what to expect but were amazed when we got there. You start at the Visitor Center which also houses a small museum which we did not have time to explore. You...More

Take the A1 out of Lisbon and get off at Exit 11. Follow the signs. Very easy.
