Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This review relates to the Outlet located at the Oak Ray Regency Hotel.
A lady was spinning yarn at a loom but that was it in terms of observing the manufacturing process for Batik or any other Fabric.
Their entire range of products is on display here including readymade garments, handbags, belts, etc.
The young lady sales assistant was giving me the "hard sell" so I tried a couple of T Shirts but they were not the correct size.
The shop was full of tourists.

I went to all the batik stores in Kandy, and ended up buying here. The staff was nice and not pushy, they had great inventory, and they did not have an attitude. What annoys me is that all batik shops price in US Dollars and the prices are quite high.....$350 for a tablecloth. What a rip off!
We managed to bargain with the owner of the store, and both parties felt like we got a good deal. Plus they do not give your driver commission, which ultimately drives the price up for you.
I highly recommend you go here, and bargain.

They offer a free tour of the workshop so you can see the steps that some of the batik and other silk projects take. There are at least 3 floors to go through and we were unable to resist getting gifts for our family, our friends and ourselves. There was such a large variety in the sizes, colors and quality of the offerings that it was easy to find everything we needed (and things that we hadn't known existed).

I appreciated the interesting tour of the workshop. I could see the stages of production and all the work that is involved in producing a piece of batik. I cannot speak to the pricing but could see a variety of size and subject in the batiks. Some clothing and souvenirs are also available. I bought a t-shirt and several attractive bookmarks. I did not experience any pressure to buy.

The lady who showed us the process of the batik was really friendly and patient, allowing us to take photos and ask questions throughout. We then looked around the shop which had a great selection of all kind of designs over three floors. There is always a little pressure to make a purchase in a shop following a tour however the lady who helped us was not intrusive or pushy and let us browse at our leisure without the usual following around or harassment. For this reason I was far happier to make a purchase, but given how lovely the artwork was I think it would have been hard to miss the opportunity to buy a souvenir either way
