Crete’s aquarium, Cretaquarium, opened in December 2005. Belonging to a large European family of aquariums, the Cretaquarium offers its visitors the unique chance to plunge into the great marine world of the Mediterranean. From the big hunter sharks to the tiny seahorses, the sensational jellyfish, the diversity of marine life is set off against underwater Cretan seascapes such as the rock formations at Matala( South Crete)and the sea bed at Vai(North East Crete).

Hard place to find, but once we found it we had a really good time there. Plenty of things to see from small to big.

Admission rates are slightly lower and no crowds. The turtle eggs hatching simulation was a hit with the 6 and 4 year old. Good displays of lots of sea life. The octopus is a fun show off, undulating on the foremost glass, tracing your hand movements and changing color. The restaurant on site and reasonably priced.

This place is absolutely fascinating by lots of different kinds of creatures. You can enjoy it for as long as you wish. I think the entrance fee was about € 5 for one person. We really enjoyed it. Remember to have enough water in the summer months.

This place is really good value for your money. We spent at least 3 hours one afternoon exploring this aquarium. This place is full of all kinds of fish including a very large viewing area for the sharks. We traveled from kokkini hanni by bus . Take into consideration its about a 5/10 minute walk from the bus stop. once... More

It was a very pretty aquarium, although I wouldn't call it a must-see. It's for sure worth the 6 euro entrance fee, and they do have a very nice collection of aquatic life, some of which I haven't even seen at many other aquariums around the world I've been too. Don't expect it to be Monterrey Bay or Long Beach... More

This aquarium is located a short distance from the bus stop and we went at midday (perhaps do not do this as the walk was taxing in the heat or perhaps get a taxi). When we arrived the staff were extremely friendly and it was an overall great day! It was great that beside each tank there was an explanation... More

A very big and nicely made up Aquarium, well worth a visit. Very interesting also for kids with many fish to see. The have an interactive play corner for kids, where they can design their own fish, it was still in construction, but fun for the kids.
