We went as a group to Kopjeskraal Country Lodge twice for Nature workshops. The personal experience that I had there was exceptionally beautiful. This place brings you so close to nature and back to your soul. Nico the owner is a walking Encyclopedia and wants his visitors to enjoy every minute of there stay.

Yes, the owner (Christo) knows the area well and is an excellent guide. Very pleased to hear you enjoyed the natural surrounds, something I'm also passionate about. It is a very unique site and those of us living in the area are indeed priveliged to be here. Two visits are not definitely not enough so trust we'll see you here... More

We decided to visit on a Saturday afternoon and at first thought it was closed. However, George appeared from the dilapidated security box. He gave us a tour of the meteorite. He was very knowledgeable and friendly. However it was sad to see the heritage site is such disrepair and neglect.

We have requested that the authorities take down all signage leading to this visitors centre which is CLOSED. "George" is not a registered guide but a security guard and sadly gives access and makes up stories for unwary visitors. The "visitor centre" was built on granite rock, and is not the meteorite which fell 2025 years ago. All that has... More

Firstly, what is the Vredefort Dome. Well, it's the centre of a gigantic meteor impact 2 billion years ago. It is also very large and almost impossible to perceive if you are not a geologist. We went to the "Visitor's Centre" just outside Vredefort. We were extremely confused when it looked closed and abandoned from the outside, but saw people... More

We are truly sad to hear of your experience of the Vredefort Dome World Heritage Site, and reading your explanation can understand the closing comment. We believe the individual who "guided" you is employed as a security guard and is certainly not a registered site guide. South African law requires that all Travel Guides are qualified, registered and carry official... More

We recently did a boys cycle tour in the area and had great fun. The area will not disappoint if you're an avid mountain biker looking for long dirt roads, coupled with technical single track. On top of this we managed to fit in 2 hours of breathtaking hiking up the surrounding hills and as always tried our luck with... More

This world heritage site is so close to Johannesburg that the crowd from there floods the nearby town of Parys every weekend. It is a pity that there are quite a number of these city dwellers that does not even know about the fantastic nature trails and historic sites nearby. Just driving around via the Skoemansdrift road will lead the... More

The site itself looks a but old, this is probably the reason why the informationcenter is closed for maintenance. Unfortunately there is no scheduled opening date, nor does a website provide any information.

With the credit of a World Heritage Site and the illusion of a crater caused by a 10km wide meteorite (the size of Table Mountain in Cape Town) dropping from sky at 10,000 m/sec speed, surely one will be eager to take a look. But the reality is the crater is 300 km in diameter. Even the central part -... More
