About
Expect the unexpected. Incredible innovation, devastating loss, remarkable survival and magnificent restoration. All in one place There’s more than meets the eye at Croome. A secret wartime airbase, now a visitor centre, was once a hub of activity for thousands of people. Outside is the grandest of English landscapes, ‘Capability’ Brown’s masterful first commission, with commanding views over the Malverns. The parkland was nearly lost, but is now great for walks and adventures with a surprise around every corner. At the heart of the park lies Croome Court, once home to the Earls of Coventry with four floors to explore. The 6th Earl of Coventry was an 18th century trend-setter and today Croome follows his lead by using artists and craftspeople in the house to tell the story of its eclectic past in inventive ways, perfect for making new discoveries.

This trip was a great way for our class to meet each other on freshers week. The grounds are so gorgeous and large that you can walk for miles. For those who get bored walking there are lots of little things to do on the way, such as smelling and guessing the scent of what’s in the little boxes. This was really entertaining for me and my friends, locating and guessing the smells as we walked around. Inside the Manor House there’s also a trail of bugs to find as you’re walking round the rooms. Each with a fact about them. These games are enjoyable even for us young adults.
The house offers a number of historical artefacts and information and is really interesting if you’re quite a creative person. Or if you just like history.
There is a cafe, plant shop and a second hand bookstore at the entrance. A buggy can be taken to get down to the Manor House which would have been quite fun however the lady driving it decided to ask the boys in our group to walk and allowed the girls to get on the buggy, so we declined and walked instead. Which was a little disappointing. Especially because the grounds are very hilly and wide spread.

A really excellent NT destination. Approaching the house on foot, buggy or tramper you first admire the Malvern Hills in the near distance but as you get closer the house comes into view. On the way you will pass / visit the Church and then the Rotunda. This route takes you past the walled garden ( limited opening ) and finally to the spectacular frontage of the house. The visitors entrance is the other side. The house is not furnished but in many ways this adds to the appreciation of the various rooms themselves. The views from inside highlight the features in the parkland including the bridge, a tree feature and the distant greenhouse. The house shows interesting evidence of its existence as an Earl’s manor and estate, together with evidence of its late use as a school and more latterly property development activities. There are walks back passing the greenhouse. There is a buggy service and tramper hire - the latter needs booking in advance. Plenty of car parking.

Absolutely lovely day out.
Haven’t been to Croome before so didn’t not know what to expect.
Free parking (unusual) and £15 entrance fee as a non NT member.
The gentleman on the entrance was really helpful and explained where everything was and when tours were etc.
the first part of the visit was a small but very good RAF museum with info about when the property was RAF Defford.
I was very excited to find Pepper the Cat helping out in the museum!
A small video and good displays helped by a very very helpful and friendly volunteer who had lots of good info and stories.
I noticed a great looking kids play area too.
Lovely shop in the courtyard aswell.
Then it’s a good walk (downhill) to the house. There’s a lovely chapel to look at on the way with stunning views.
You can take the golf cart shuttle instead of walking if you like.
The house is beautiful but very different to most NT properties, this is due to its varied history. It is currently being renovated, I did the tour which was very interesting and probably made the house more enjoyable but it’s well worth the visit. Especially if you have an interest in history
The gardens are stunning and you could spend hours there on their own.
Lastly I had a drink in the cafe which was lovely and the food looked good and reasonable.

The park is excellent on a weather kind day to fully explore. The house is a collection of rooms with displays of art rather than a stately home, as it was stripped. The ceilings remain but the rest of the rooms display art connected with the original owner. The park has a brilliant small lake to walk around (a Capability Brown 1st ). There is also a small RAF museum and a decent cafe. Definitely worth visiting, but not for the house so much, imho.

Croome has an interesting history, including development of radar through the RAF, for which there is an excellent exhibition. Unfortunately we spent a little too long at the RAF exhibition so did not leave enough time to visit the house. Next time!

Really stunning parkland, with lovely walks. There are obvious waymarks, plenty of seating, and places to picnic, and offers a very pleasant visit at any time of the year. The park is what sells Croome as like many others, I find the house very dull and uninspiring. I've been in twice and both times took less than half an hour as there's little to see as it's only shell of its former grandeur. But top marks to the parkland, which is a delight.

I went today with my boyfriend and our daughter, it was so beautiful covered in the snow. There was so much to do there and all the staff were amazing. They went above and beyond to help us and tell us all about the place. They were amazing with our 3 year old daughter. We will definitely be back again and will be telling everyone we know that they need to visit too. Thank you to Graham for the tour and to Bertie for driving us to the house and picking us up again in the shuttle bus, you were both amazing with our daughter. We will now be getting a national trust membership thanks to our visit today.

Stunning place. The grounds were lovely, the house was very odd inside and the cafe had the nicest selection out of all NTs.
I think this place is very much lacking for an area where you can let dogs off the lead so they can stretch their legs properly. So because of this I think it is a one off visit kind of place.

Croome is beautifully situated South of Worcester centre. The staff at reception are incredibly friendly and willing to assist with information and welcoming dogs to the site. The main walking route takes minute minutes for faster walkers with extra loop adding 25mins each if you choose to take these. The grounds are very well kept along with the buildings on site. Wear wellies for the longer route past the first rotunda though, along the river.

We’ve planned to meet dear family here soon that we haven’t seen for a while as it’s roughly halfway between where we live and not far from the motorway. However I’ve read it’s a restricted route around the grounds due to Covid measures, so it doesn’t look like we can make a day of it as we had planned. Does anybody know of a nice spot not too far away from Croome that would be good to go on to afterwards? Outdoors if possible as some members of the family have been shielding. Many thanks for any ideas!

Post lockdown question ?

Dogs are most welcome. But have to stay on leads. There is one field for off lead but I'm not sure if that's open at the mo.

I’m a National Trust member, but I’m wondering if National Trust members get free admission to the privately owned walled garden within the National Trusts Croome Estate, as the National Trust website doesn't confirm whether National Trust members get free admission to the privately owned walled garden. Can any National Trust member whether whether this is the case?

You have to pay to get in, in my opinion its not worth it.

Here's a really crazy idea-get the NT app online or email them & ask the question. It's about time Trip Advisor edited out these dumbarse questions!
