I'm reviewing the forest park and lake of the castle grounds. The access road is situated just of the Main road to the A1 before the top of the hill on the right heading to top of the town. There is enough car parking and...More

The Fort is enclosed by a wall with no public access though Historic Royal Palaces have plans to take responsibility for it and to open it to the public. It is approached by a tree-lined walk from the top of Main Street, just opposite the...More

Nice easy walk around the lake. The Fort is irrelevant. The walks are a favourite with dog walkers, but as they are very well behaved, that’s not a problem. Car parking is free which helps ( the parking gestapo haven’t spotted this yet).

Not lots to see in the fort, but the lake which you can walk all the round & grounds are a lovely walk & you can also venture into the forest.

Visited the fort and had a wonderful picnic there. Large grass area with undulating mounds made a great safe place for the kids to play. Would have loved to see around the fort but I think it’s a private house.

Hillsborough as a village is great with many good eateries and pubs plus the castle. Hillsborough fort is, for the tourist, disappointing in that it is closed off to the public and, whilst it is impressive from the front, that is all you will see...More

A interesting place to visit as part of the walk around the lake . It's a great space for children to run about and let off steam . There are some interesting historical facts to read about and several things to see .

Nice place for a few photographs or to take the dog for a walk, didn't have time to go inside but outside of building was impressive.

A great place to learn a little about Irish history and go for a long walk around the lake and meet some interesting local people and the occasional fisherman.

Went here on Saturday with my young daughter who is just finding her feet and walks as much as she can. I was afraid to let her walk anywhere as there was dog mess everywhere. Lumps on the paths, just off the paths, everywhere you...More

Walked to the door and back... that's all there is! It's made of brick and stone with trees and grass around it...
