We didn't get to visit the island because we arrived too late for the ferry. So I'd like to advise you to check the departures of the Ferry before going here. The company operating this ferry is called Delcomar. When I was at the ferry in the town Porto Torres the departure times were 8:15, 11:30 and 16:30. The last is only an option when you choose to stay a night on the island.

If you miss the 10:30 ferry..... just go somewhere else!!!! We paid for a private Taxi to take us to the island because we did not know that there was only one ferry. After 200 euros, we arrived on the island to find out that it is all lies!!!! There are no Jeep’s to rent, no bicycles to rent, no private guides. There is NOTHING but a bus that comes around every 2 hours. The shorelines are deserted, rocky, and hot. There isn’t even a shade tree!!!!

There is a bar where you can give them money because they have you prisoner!!! You cannot get off this island until 5:00 pm

Heed, my WARNING!!!! Everything on the internet is a LIE!!!!

We took the ferry from Porto Torres ( there and back for 15 euros for 1 person). We spent there about half a day. It was worth. It's an amazing place . The scenery is stunning. Watch out wild donkeys, some of them are white. Must visit old jail and beach named Cala Sabina.

The island is nice, very beautiful, but so so hot there. Is like burinig your skin. We had a trip with a boat and was perfect! Very friendly staff, funny, warm etc. The company name is Antonio Primo 1941, info@antonioprimo.it or phone 3209444514. The price was 50 euro /pers, and we had the luch inlcuded: pasta, wine, cofee, dessert and digestivo. We've left at 8.30 am and returned in POrto Torres at 7.30 p,m. The boat stops around the island to jump from the boat, swim and snorkeling. Everything was excellent! Suitable for all ages.

We went on the Jeep excursion. Good fun, a mixture of on road and off road. The guide Ricardo was excellent, he knew everything there was to know about the history, flora and fauna of the Island. The trip included the boat across and a tour around the main places of Asinara and also a stop at one of the beautiful beaches. We saw lots of wildlife including wild boar, donkeys, horses, water birds, owls and even a snake.
Tips - take a sunhat and plenty to drink as some parts of the Island are quite exposed. Also take insect repellent as there were lots of flying creatures.

Visiting a secluded uninhabited island is certainly an experience that doesn't come about often and is usually memorable. Asinara island and national park is just one of those.
The boat departs from Stintino's new marina and it leaves exactly on time, so don't be late or you'll miss it.
The visit to the park is an all-day trip where you get to tour the island in a cute green train, visit what was once a prison and take a dip in the amazing waters of the island. Needless to say that the water there is out of this world. How many times do you get to swim in waters that are not accessible except to a few?
The island is famous for its white donkeys, so make sure to take a picture of one.
The ghost city left by the inhabitants who were forced to evacuate prior to the island hosting its prison, is quite interesting to visit.
I certainly recommend visiting this island as part of any vacation in Stintino. The trip can be booked at most travel/tourist agencies in Stintino

We visited at the end of October, after the end of the main summer season. Asinara lived up to expectations as a beautiful, peaceful island and the white donkeys which the island is named after were much in evidence. However visiting out of season does come with a bit of a health warning. Ferries from Stintino were no longer operating and while Delcomar advertise a daily service from Porto Torres, we discovered the hard way that it was only running on Fridays during the week of our visit. Most of the advertised options for exploring the island (jeeps, train, bikes etc) had also stopped running for the season. We had expected that and were happy to enjoy the island on foot. Maps of the various walking routes are clearly displayed outside the (closed) tourist information office but we found some to be inaccurate with paths closed off. Don’t get me wrong - we had a really enjoyable visit and do not regret going - but if visiting at this time of year, you do need to be prepared to do your own thing. It IS possible to take a car or bike across on the ferry and doing that might have opened up more options. We took food with us - although there was a small cafe selling teas, coffees and pastries on arrival.

My boyfriend and me went to Asinara with an agency Mare & Natura from Stintino. Travelling around the island was by funny train and it was fun :) Our guide Nelly was telling us about the interesting history of island and about its amazing and unique nature.
I saw negative reviews about the island mainly with respect to its size - yes, this is a big island and if you don't go around there at least by bike (also rather for more sportive people - it's hilly!), don't expect to get anywhere just by foot!
We recommend organized tours - even if not cheap, you will get good idea about the island. Without it you probably won't be able to fully appreciate this interesting island.
