Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

it's worth taking a look at but hardly spectacular. Very American looking which doesn't fit the island image at all. It was built in 2006 in the hope that business, etc. would follow but didn't. It's too far from Koror and business was well established there. Nobody moved. When congress is in session I can't imagine where they get their food (maybe they have their own kitchen?) There's nothing around there. Sure, you can continue on the road and try and find the various sights you will see on the tourist map. All I can say is, good luck with that one. Even local people don't seem to know how to give directions and there are NO signs. The capitol was like a ghost town when we visited it. Almost spooky. You can enjoy wonderful views of the lagoon/ocean from there and if you brought a picnic lunch you will definitely enjoy that.
The seal over the doors that reads: Olbiil Era Kelulau means: Whispered Decisions or Strategies. the bird you see on the building everywhere is a Delerrok Money Bird (how appropriate).

It's a huge complex of buildings pretty much in the middle of nowhere, really surreal looking and standing out in this surrounding, definitely worth a short visit and a great photo op.

Upon entering the California state capitol there is ample security. Numerous security guards with x-ray machines and metal detectors. Felt very safe touring the building. There is ample street parking ,mostly metered, and the surrounding gardens are well-maintained with mature citrus, pine and palm trees. The interior of the building is decorated with beautiful solid wood staircases and marble floors. Really enjoyed the large bronze statue of President Ronald Reagan and the book/ gift shop was fun to look through.

Melekeok is so beautiful, the scenery is wonderful. There's a lovely little cafe which has a terrace over the sea in the middle of the village.
We first visited the pier in Melekeok for a picnic at the weekend and decided to return for a lunchtime picnic the following Tuesday. We parked up and had just got our bits out the car when we heard a loud 'oi!' We turned around and it was coming from a man at the State Office who then yelled 'come here' rather impolitely! We were then informed that to have a picnic, snorkel or even walk up the pier or on the tiny bit of beach would cost us $10 per person! Having rented a car and paid the extortionate prices for food etc that you pay in Palau I begrudge having to pay to walk on a beach very much so. I don't mind paying the permits and green taxes etc but the Palau government should not allow individual towns to charge tourists to visit beaches. All we wanted was a spot for 20mins to have a quick picnic. Such a shame!

We rented a car and drove around Babeldaob Island (the "Big Island") for a whole day. This is right on our route. They have US style "capitol" building and supreme court. They all look quite grand and nice for picture-taking. However, the whole complex looks quite empty. Aside from people who work in the government agencies, we did not even see many other people around. While there is no tour for the interior, we were not even able to find a place for lunch.
It is a nice place for a quick visit, and have some pictures taken if you happen to be in this area or doing a "drive-around" the island tour for Babeldaob Island. It is not really worthwhile to come all the way here from Koror, just to see this attraction.

Outstanding in the middle of nowhere. Took a little drive to get there but it was worth the trip. Lovely place.

Although I wasn't able to go inside the Capitol, the ground and the view of the shore is beautiful. All three branches of government are there. Sit on a hill, in the back, it has a spectacular view of the shoreline.

We rented a car and drove around the island for two days. This was the strangest place - in the middle of nowhere the capitol is standing as a big new modern stone monolith. It is built few years ago by the chinese support and therefore the colons are not made of stone but some hollow material. But the view from the capitol is magnificent.
Unfortunately we didn't find a tour available to see inside.

I decided to rent a car and drive to the capital! Nice architecture? Loved the smooth drive and small towns... Definitely a landmark in palau!

You'll be surprised when you see these gigantic government buildings appear up ahead on the paved highway that winds through the green hills and trees on Babelthuap Island. Based on the design of the U.S. Capitol, it's amazing that they decided to build such a spectacular set of buildings for such a small island nation.
