Lovely Romanesque Church
Oct 2019 • Friends
No artwork of note inside, but this church looks like there was no major alteration since it was built in the XII century. It would be great for architecture students! It was completely empty of other people during our visit and felt quite other worldly. The little museum contains a glass chalice from Lombardian times along with more recent ecclesiastical objects.

Beautiful and ancient

This magnificent church dominates the village of Berceto. Built during Roman times it has withstood wars, natural disasters. It's a magnificently beautiful old church.

Small but worth 15 minutes

There is not a great deal to say about the Duomo. There isn't a huge amount to see. It is the fabric of the building itself which is interesting, very old. it feels nice. Anyone visiting Berceto should visit it.

Look to the left inside the door!

The Duomo in Berceto is right in the centre of the small town. Berceto was at the epicentre of a 5.4 magnitude earthquake in 2012, and there is a large crack visible inside the church, although I am not sure whether the two are related. It is a peaceful place, simple in design, with a small museum attached.

Be careful outside - the pavement in the square has drainage channels which can turn an ankle if you are looking up at the dome!

Stunning church dating from 712A.D.

My great-grandfather was married in this church back in 1902. It is a wonderfully preserved example of the churches that were built as the Roman Empire was beginning its decline. Berceto is a charming village, with some of the best food/restaurants you'll find in the area.

The church has a "museum" of sorts where they display their "relic", as well as many other pieces from its long history.

This Duomo sits on Via Francigena

The Duomo dates back to Pre Roman footings.. a natural frizzante spring and a small township full of character. The walks spring out of the Duomo and head across the Cisa ranges toward Massa Carrara, Corchia and Parma... a fascinating town with a rich history twinned with a Native American Indian settlement no less...
