We drove all the way from Placencia to Juan's cacao farm - 3+ hours. It was DEFINITELY worth the trip! We had the BEST meal of our entire week in Belize at IxCacao! All organic, fresh, and delicious! Making chocolate was fun and informative! And the tour was so interesting. When I asked Juan if he ever took a vacation,... More

While in Placencia we booked a tour to the chocolate farm for my husband and I, two daughter (14 and 12) and my mother in law who is retired. Juan met our family at one of his farms and walked us through the grounds explaining the agriculture and allowing us to taste a lot of wonderful items that he grows.... More

Booked our tour through Blue Belize. Travelled from Punta Gorda to the farm (about an hour) and Juan explained the importance of sustainable agriculture and how the cacao and other vegetation are important to each other. We then went to where the chocolate is processed. Juan showed us how the ancient Mayan made chocolate and we had a hands on... More

When I first got there I was amazed by the scenery and the warm friendly greeting from Mr. Juan. The way he showed us how REAL chocolate was made was very interesting and educational and he told us with great enthusiasm. For lunch Mrs.Abelina and family had made us a GREAT maya Belizean buffet and I was very pleased with... More

IXCACAO Maya Belizean Chocolate is a great place to visit. We had a great lunch and a chocolate making demonstration was very informative. Some of the lunch dishes had chocolate in them. The chicken was the best I have ever had. Juan and his wife Abelina, the couple that own Ixcacao, have a wonderful little business here and the chocolate... More

If you are looking for a day with the locals, learning about an ancient craft that still has a vibrant practice, spend the day at Ixcacao. We pealed our own roasted beans, ground them ourselves and made chocolates the Mayan way as we learned about the tradition and reality of this beautiful family and their farm. Lunch was amazing and... More

Juan and his wife Abelina work together to provide an awesome experience. Juan talks through the history of chocolate-making, while taking you through the process from plant to chocolate bar. Best of all, you have the opportunity to taste a little of everything, from nibs, to hot cacao drink to several varieties of their organic chocolates. This family-run small business... More

We want to thank Juan and his wive Abelina for the lovely experience at the farm and at the cacao - farm. We enjoyed our tour over the farm, and the chocolate-making. Thank you for everything, Abelina, we enjoyed your food.

We 4 travellers came across this Mayan Treasure by way of a cab driver in Placencia. So glad we took his advise and travelled a short distance from Punta Gorda to meet with Juan and his wife Abelina. We were blown away by the excellent lunch that Abelina prepared and then equally so by Juan, who spoke with knowledge and... More
